Despite having last reprised the role of Peter Parker way back in 2014, Andrew Garfield just doesn't seem to be able to escape the Spider-Man gossip. During a recent appearance on The Tonight Show, Garfield was once again forced to deny the rumors that his Spidey will be making an appearance alongside Tom Holland's portrayal of the much-loved character in Marvel's hugely anticipated upcoming movie, Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Alongside dodging those cameo rumors, Garfield also weighed in on the ongoing debate as to which of the three actors have so far donned the Spider-Man latex suit best — out of Garfield, Holland, and Tobey Maguire, who played the character in Sam Raimi's early 2000s trilogy.

Appearing in the studio via video call, Garfield said, "I think that Tom Holland is just the perfect Peter Parker and Spider-Man, so I'm just super stoked [to watch Spider-Man: No Way Home]."

However, Garfield's comments have inadvertently reignited debate among fans of the classic Stan Lee comic book series, with one Twitter user writing, "no need to be humble we all know the truth king". Two other fans started a discourse underneath Garfield's late-night show appearance, with one tweeting, "Andrew Garfields Spider-Man got a lot of hate but I really liked him", while another replied, "He is a good Spiderman but not [as] good being Peter Parker as Tobey".

The debate about which out of Garfield, Holland, and Maguire's on-screen portrayals of the character is best has been largely fuelled by the mystery surrounding whether or not both Maguire and Garfield's Peter Parkers will be appearing in Spider-Man: No Way Home, the third installment of Marvel's Holland-led franchise. Despite multiple denials from both Garfield and Holland's camps, fans are certain that the upcoming movie's multiverse plot will see the realities of all three Spider-Men colliding.

Those who prefer Garfield and Maguire's older versions of the superhero have been accused of wearing "nostalgia" goggles, while those who favor Holland's portrayal of the famous web-slinger have been accused of thinking the newest version of Peter Parker is the best just because he's a part of the MCU.

One fan wrote, "Tobey confirmed to be the best Spider-Man off the sole fact that he's the only non-british one", while another speculated that "Andrew Garfield could've become the best Spider-Man if they gave him a third film".

However, some Twitter users did agree with Garfield, and especially his inference that Holland's portrayal of the character provides the best balance between Peter Parker as an awkward teenager and Spider-Man as his superhero alter-ego. One wrote, "tobey was the best peter parker, andrew was the best spider-man and tom holland is the best of both worlds".
