Marvel Cinematic Universe began with Iron Man back in 2008, which was promoted by its main cast, which included Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Terrence Howard, and Jeff Bridges.

Of course, in the years since that movie was released, the MCU has gotten a whole lot bigger. For that reason, when Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame were released, those films were promoted by a legion of Marvel movie stars.

Throughout the promotional tour for those two Avengers films, their casts made it a habit to mock and joke around with one another. While virtually everyone who starred in Infinity War and Endgame got in on the act, Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan seemed to especially take glee in mocking their youngest co-star, Tom Holland.

After Mackie and Stan took several shots at Tom Holland, the Spider-Man actor began to fire back at his two Marvel co-stars. Considering some of the jokes that the two have said about one another have been pretty harsh, it has left some observers wondering, are they friends or enemies?

Updated on May 25, 2021, by Michael Chaar: When it comes to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there are tons of actors who share very close relationships, however, fans are beginning to wonder if Tom Holland and Anthony Mackie are one of them. After mocking the young Spider-Man actor, Anthony Mackie found himself getting a taste of his own medicine when Holland referred to the non-existent Falcon film, as a comeback to Anthony claiming he had never seen any of the Spider-Man movies. While it's clear the duo are very much kidding, it seems as if Mackie got the last laugh now that he's got his very own show, and he tweeted Tom Holland to keep him in the loop!

Working Together

When it was announced that Spider-Man was going to be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the release of Captain America: Civil War, fans were overjoyed.

During Civil War’s most talked-about scene, several of the MCU’s beloved superheroes squared off against one another in an airport. During that sequence, Spider-Man tangles with Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Evidently while filming that sequence, Tom Holland made an impression on Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan as they have talked about him extensively since then.

While Tom Holland, Anthony Mackie, and Sebastian Stan would all go on to appear in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, their characters didn’t interact very much. Instead, Holland spent much of his onscreen time alongside Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man, which likely is why some fans are curious if those two actors are pals.

The “Feud”

Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan have made fun of Tom Holland so many times in recent years, that some websites have compiled the history of their jokes.

For that reason, it is known that Mackie and Stan began mocking Holland while promoting Captain America: Civil War. At that time, most of the two actors’ jokes about Holland revolved around his young age, with Mackie once suggesting Tom was 8-years-old.

Once Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan started making fun of Tom Holland, their jokes about their young co-star became a staple of their interviews. For example, Stan and Mackie took a shot at Holland when they were asked if they had seen Spider-Man: Homecoming during a July 2017 interview.

Responding that they hadn’t and weren’t planning to, Mackie went on to say that after working with Holland he thought Tom’s movies were only worth watching on airplanes. Ouch!

Amazingly enough, Anthony Mackie’s jokes about Tom Holand aren’t limited to his own interviews. For example, when Tom Holland and Benedict Cumberbatch were being interviewed at D23, Mackie interrupted the conversation to mock the Spider-Man actor.

After handing Holland a drink, Mackie claimed that Tom gets “cranky” if he doesn’t get his juice before assuring Cumberbatch that he would get a new interview partner soon.

For his part, Tom Holland has roasted Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan as well. Most notably, Holland once responded to Mackie saying he hadn’t seen Spider-Man: Homecoming by saying he hadn’t seen the Falcon movie either. Of course, Holland’s joke was meant to mock the fact that there is no Falcon movie.

"I've never seen the Falcon movie- Oh, wait! There isn't one," Tom zinged right back at Anthony! "Good one!" Mackie admitted.

Real Relationship

Based on everything Tom Holland and Anthony Mackie have said about one another, some people have concluded that they legitimately have issues with one another. However, if you look a little deeper, it becomes clear that all of the comments the two actors have traded were in jest and they truly like one another very much.

So much that it appears as if Anthony Mackie is the one getting the final laugh! After it was announced that Falcon and Winter Soldier would be getting their very own series, Mackie tweeted a video of him on-set and captioned the tweet saying, "Pull up to @TomHolland house like..." as Mackie flies across the screen.

This was obviously a diss back at Tom claiming there wasn't a Falcon film, and while there still isn't, the show is plenty, so much that it won Anthony and Sebastian an MTV Movie Award last week for Best Duo.

Anthony Mackie found a way to one-up Tom Holland yet again, mentioning Tom in his speech saying, "Thank you guys so much. Y'all be safe, enjoy yourself I’m getting out of here. Tom Holland: I’m on your ass, boy."

And that Anthony x Tom saga continues!
