Think of the biggest names in music today. Artists like Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, Eminem, Drake, and even newcomers like BTS easily come to mind for their catchy tracks and powerhouse branding that attracts millions of fans.

But there's another artist who may not rank the highest on popularity lists. And it's this artist that has the most hit songs these days, outranking even himself when it comes time to climb the charts.

Who Has The Most Hit Songs Today?

While Taylor Swift is a prolific songwriter, and Eminem's career has spanned decades, these aren't either of the top-ranking artists today. Instead, it's Ed Sheeran who has three songs sitting in the top-ranking slot on music charts.

Three of Ed Sheeran's tracks have sold 15 million copies or more, with a fourth hit coming in with 10.3 million copies.

His top three hits? 'Thinking Out Loud' (2014), 'Perfect' (2017), and 'Shape of You' (2017). His final hit was with Justin Bieber; 2018's 'I Don't Care.'

Ed Sheeran Has Broken His Own Records

Fans of Ed Sheeran might not be surprised that he's popped out so many hit tracks and sold millions of records. After all, he's clearly very talented -- and his high-powered connections with stars like Taylor Swift and Justin Bieber definitely help his reputation and, in some cases, help him rank on the charts.

But some of Sheeran's songs have broken his own records.

2014's 'Thinking Out Loud' was the first to reach 15 million digital copies sold, but then 2017 (and the album '÷' -- 'Divide') came out, and the other two tracks burned up the charts.

2018 saw Sheeran pairing up with Justin Bieber for their pop duet 'I Don't Care,' which was timely since both gents had recently settled down with their respective partners and had plenty of relationship milestones to sing about.

Ed has also earned countless Grammy, Brit, and Billboard Music Awards, among other accolades.

What Artist Will Outpace Ed Sheeran Next?

It's tough to predict whether any artist will be able to overcome Ed's top digital sales records. Other top artists -- including Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee, Rihanna and Drake, The Chainsmokers, Adele, Billie Eilish, and Camila Cabello have all had hits come in at over 15 million digital copies or more.

But for someone who doesn't do a ton of promotion or branding or drama in the headlines, Ed Sheeran has accomplished some impressive metrics. Of course, who knows whether Ed will continue to sit at the top of the charts -- he hasn't produced new music since 2019, though he has hinted at a return to the studio.

Still, Ed's plenty busy, with his young family and working with other artists to give them a shot at hitting the highest heights just like he has.
