Barack and Michelle Obama are two people who need no introduction. As a former President and First Lady of the United States, this couple has certainly had their share of public scrutiny and admiration in equal measure.

Their endeavors didn't stop, however, when they left the White House in 2016. After forming their own production company, Higher Ground in 2018, the Obamas and their team have gone on to partner with Netflix on several films and TV shows. The newest of these shows is a children's program called Waffles + Mochi, which premiered on March 16.

More recently, Higher Ground collaborated with both Netflix and Sony to produce a heart-warming film about the duty of a father to his children. Fatherhood, which will star comedian Kevin Hart, will hit Netflix on June 18th, just in time for Father's Day.

According to What's on Netflix, Barack and Michelle Obama signed their landmark deal in May of 2018, first creating a documentary called American Factory which released in August of 2019. Their most notable title to date, however, it probably Becoming, a documentary series that followed Michelle while she was on her book tour for her book titled, Becoming Michelle Obama.

While it's not clear if Fatherhood will count toward their original deal or not, it's sure to be a success with all the creative backing it has, and with famous actor and comedian Kevin Hart starring.

While Hart became the focus of the film once cast, he wasn't the first actor picked to play the main character. Channing Tatum was the first pick for the role of a widower who must now raise his daughter alone after his wife unexpectedly dies in childbirth.

This is one of few films that will give Hart the chance to put his serious acting chops to the test, as he is almost always cast as an affable comic relief character. Admittedly, he does well in that particular space, but with the chance to show off that serious side, fans of his acting will now get to see a whole new side of him.

Hart isn't the only one to ink large first-look deals with the streaming service in recent years. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have a multi-year deal with the service, and Will Ferrell inked a deal under his own production company in January of 2020. Ferrell has thus far produced the movies Hustlers, Booksmart and Dead to Me.

Fatherhood has been delayed in its production three times thus far due to the pandemic - it was originally scheduled to release on April 3, 2020. It is now slated to hit Netflix on June 18.
