Euphoria’s season three isn’t supposed to release until next year and not much is known about the storyline. But one thing that’s been confirmed is one of the show’s main characters won’t be returning, as Barbie Ferreira is leaving the hit show.

Barbie – who’s played high school student Kat Hernandez for the last two seasons revealed on Instagram that she’s saying goodbye to the role.

"After four years of getting to embody the most special and enigmatic character Kat, I'm having to say a very teary-eyed goodbye," she shared on her Instagram Story alongside fan art of Kat. "I hope many of you could see yourself in her like I did, and that she brought you joy to see her journey into the character she is today,” she continued.

Barbie Didn’t Like Kate’s Storyline In Season 2

Barbie’s portrayal of Kat instantly made the character a fan-favorite following the first season. Kat was introduced as a mousy, plus-size teenager who learns to accept her body and sexuality after delving into the controversial world of camming.

However, season two’s storyline was criticized for not staying true to Kat’s character. Departing from the body positive storyline of the first season, Kat became a villain after lying about having a terminal illness to break-up with her boyfriend, who she became disenchanted with because she found him too nice.

It's not only the fans who felt disappointed by Kat in the second season. Barbie reportedly disliked her character’s narrative, which led to a clash between her and Euphoria’s creator Sam Levinson.

Euphoria’s Creator May Have Pushed Barbie Out

Since the second season debuted earlier this year, there have been rumors about Barbie’s contentious working relationship with Sam.

In February, The Daily Beast reported that “a handful of production sources” confirmed Barbie walked off the Euphoria set at least two times. In addition, she reportedly also sustained an on-set injury after twisting her ankle while filming episode four.

However, a source close to production told E! News that there was never a feud between Barbie and Sam, though reps for the celebs declined to comment.

Barbie isn’t the only Euphoria star to reportedly have problems with the creator. Both Sydney Sweeney and Minka Kelly have revealed they asked Sam to cut out some nude scenes from the script after feeling uncomfortable. Additionally, multiple actors have also gotten hurt during filming, including Zendaya, who said she was left with scrapes and bruises after filming her character Rue’s intervention scene.
