British actress Wallis Day replaces the character originally played by Ruby Rose.

The CW series Batwoman might have found a new superhero donning the cape in Javicia Leslie, but there was still no word regarding the fate of Kate Kane. Until last Sunday’s episode.

In a surprise reappearance on Survived Much Worse, the network has confirmed British actress Wallis Day will play the character portrayed by Rose in the first season.

After Rose’s exit last May, Leslie stepped in to play Ryan Wilder, a former drug runner who finds the Batwoman costume when Kane is presumed dead in a plane crash. A very skilled yet undisciplined fighter, Ryan assumes the identity of Batwoman, becoming the first Black iteration of the superhero.

The show seemed to have gotten rid of Kane — an out and proud lesbian and Bruce Wayne’s cousin — for good following Rose’s departure from the project. But audiences haven’t seen the last of Kate, as it turns out.

Wallis Day Plays An ‘Altered’ Kate Kane, But What Does This Mean For Ryan Wilder?

“Super excited to finally announce I’m joining the cast of Batwoman. I’m sure you can imagine how much this means to me and how incredible it’s been working on the show so far. Everyone’s made me feel so welcome and it’s amazing being back home with my DC family,” Day tweeted.

But what does the casting of Day mean for Ryan and the show as a whole?

After a badly burnt Kate resurfaces in the last episode, fans had no idea what to expect from the series.

“Wallis Day is going to be playing our altered version of Kate Kane, and she’s an amazing actress,” showrunner Caroline Dries told TVLine.

“I’m excited for you guys to see the journey that she endures,” she continued.

Leslie is said to continue to be the only Batwoman in the show.

‘Batwoman’ Is Sending Fans Huge Mixed Signals

Confused? Fans of the show are just as puzzled.

“Wait, so Javicia Leslie replaces Ruby Rose as Batwoman and then Wallis Day replaces Ruby Rose as Kate Kane?” reads one comment on Twitter.

Others are excited to see the return of an iconic lesbian superhero.

“I wish the Batwoman show was better but as long as there's Kate Kane then I'm happy. We don't get many of them and she's the most iconic lesbian superhero,” one fan wrote.

The reappearance of Kane, however, might prompt a surge in racist comments against Leslie, who’s been the target of some nasty trolling ever since she got cast in the role.

Nonetheless, Leslie and her character have received an outpouring of support from some in the DC fandom who prefer Ryan to Rose’s Kane.

“I still think killing off kate kane and bringing in a new character to be batwoman instead of just cancelling the show when their literal main actress left was a wild idea but also ryan's been more interesting/has had more chemistry with character than kate ever was/had,” one user tweeted.

Finally, one fan is excited to see Day and Leslie working together to save Gotham in whichever capacity the show will see fit.

“you are such an amazing person! happy to see, that you are the new Kate Kane! Can't wait to see all your scenes with the whole Batwoman Cast, and especially with Javicia!” one user told Day.

Batwoman airs on Sundays on The CW at 8/7c
