After the first Bring It On movie premiered in 2000, it set a high standard for cheerleader entertainment. Bring It On Again followed in 2004 and ended up being a total flop. Some fans thought the franchise was done for-- until Bring It On: All Or Nothing starring Solange Knowles and Hayden Panettiere came out in 2006 and revived our hope in the franchise.
Bring It On: In It to Win It starring Ashley Benson made waves in 2007 followed by Bring It On: Fight To The Finish starring Christina Milian. In 2017, Bring It On: Worldwide #Cheersmack came out but sadly there haven't been any new additions to the franchise since then. 10 Hit The Floor
Hit the Floor is a scripted show about the lives of a cheerleading squad in Los Angeles. They are the LA Devils and they spend their time cheering for their school's sports team on the court and cheer politics during practice sessions. The show was sadly canceled after its fourth season much to the dismay of devoted fans. Show creator James LaRose posted how the show was supposed to end on Instagram.
9 Cheerleader Nation
Cheerleader Nation is a show that premiered in 2006. It is filmed documentary-style following the lives of cheerleaders as they prep and practice for their upcoming championship competition. It isn't just any little rinky-dink competition though-- it's nationals. Cheerleader Nation focuses on high school students so the cast is a lot younger than other cheer shows and movies. The show came through with eight episodes in total.
8 Poms
Poms is a 2019 comedy about an introverted and shy woman named Martha. She moves to a retirement community that offers fun activities like bowling, golf, and shuffleboard. She ends up befriending a woman named Sheryl who also lives in the community and the two bond. They decide to form their own cheer squad with other residents who live in their community. Cheerleading was always a dream of theirs so they decide to finally pursue it, despite their age.
7 Fired Up!
This 2009 movie is called Fired Up! and it focuses on high school students who come up with a plan. Football players don't want to attend football camp over the summer so they decide to sign up for cheerleading camp instead.
They are pleased with their plan when they realize they are surrounded by beautiful female cheerleaders. The main character falls for one of the girls who can see through his plan.
6 Man Of The House
A group of cheerleaders witness a crime and must be protected by an officer so that they can remain safe from harm. The main issue is that a couple of the cheerleaders are too ditzy and dimwitted for their own good. The man who is assigned to protect them must move in with them to their home and deal with their shenanigans from minimal clothing to failing out of their classes.
5 Cheer Squad
The first and only season of Cheer Squad premiered in 2016. This show gave viewers a glimpse into what international cheerleading can really be like. A Canadian team, the Great White Sharks, is the focus of this show.
They have won multiple world championships in the past so keeping up with that standard is extremely important to them. Talk of another season hasn't really happened.
4 Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders: Making The Team
Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders: Making The Team is a reality show that focuses on the process required to make it onto the Dallas Cowboy cheer squad. The squad has been labeled "America's Sweethearts" and they are known for their bright smiles, positive attitudes, and charm. Cheerleaders from all around the world want to make it onto this team and are willing to do whatever it takes! This show has gone for 15 seasons.
3 Hellcats
Ashley Tisdale is one of the lead characters in Hellcats, a show that depicts the catty side of cheerleading and cheer politics. Aly Michalka is also one of the stars of this show as the leading lady who loses her college scholarship and must try out for the cheer squad to continue being a student at her university. She deals with a bunch of backstabbing drama and must stand up for herself.
2 Dare Me
This show was canceled after one season for some strange reason. it certainly deserved at least a second season. The show follows a group of cheerleaders who learn that they will be getting a new coach soon. Their new coach shows up with a lot of baggage. She's got deep, dark secrets that are really heavy. One of the secrets she harbors is that she is having an affair with a man who is not her husband. Two of the cheerleaders find out about it and things go crazy from there!
1 Cheer
Cheer is an excellent show and that is why it ranks in the first place. It focuses on the cheer squad of Corsicana, Texas, a small town with hard-working athletes. Their coach Monica Aldama is a woman who demands total perfection from her squad. The first episode aired on Netflix on January 8, 2020, after being created by Greg Whiteley. The show was nominated for the People's Choice Award for Favorite Bingeworthy Show. The show has dealt with some scandals causing fans to wonder if it will return.
