When your husband is a billionaire like Jay-Z, we can only imagine how hard it must be for Beyonce to find her man a gift that he doesn’t already have. The rap mogul owns plenty of property, islands, cars, clothes, and businesses, but one thing he apparently didn’t have was a jet.
According to reports, the “Single Ladies” superstar spent an eye-watering $40 million for Father’s Day in 2012 to surprise her long-time partner with his custom-designed luxury Bombardier Challenger 850, so whenever business was calling internationally, Jay would always be ready to board a flight.
The couple certainly isn't strangers to gifting each other with the most expensive presents one can only dream of, so what else is there to know about Jay’s private jet, and did he buy his woman anything in return?
Beyonce Bought Jay-Z A Private Jet
While more and more celebrities are buying private jets these days, Beyonce seemed to be ahead of the game when she spent $40 million on the Bombardier Challenger 850 aircraft, which is reportedly big enough to carry up to 19 people in one flight.
Considering that the married pair are already proud parents to three children, eight-year-old Blue Ivy, and three-year-old twins Suri and Sir, and knowing that they tend to travel with family members a lot, including Bey’s mother Tina Knowles and sister Solange, the Carters can now travel at ease.
To make matters all the more interesting, the aircraft comes with a living room, bedroom, and two bathrooms — and if that wasn’t impressive enough, there’s also a kitchen for their personal chef to prepare a healthy meal for the family while en route to their destination.
According to IBTimes, “it also has a huge forward galley, a baggage compartment from the aft lav and a center lounge, which can turn an entertainment room, lounge or stateroom. The private plane also features a digital cabin entertainment system where guests can take advantage of, as well as touch screen controls, phone and wifi.”
And if all of that wasn’t enough, the aircraft also comes with an executive-seating configuration, allowing Jay to handle all of his meetings while 40,000 feet up in the air. Needless to say, this pricey gift from Beyonce is definitely being put to good use.
The Grammy winner is no stranger to presenting her husband with lavish presents, having handed him a $2 million Bugatti Veyron for his 41st birthday in 2010 and a $5 million diamond-encrusted Hublot Big Bang ring for his 43rd bash two years later.
One year after Beyonce was said to have spent $40 million on her beau’s private jet, Jay-Z came up with a thoughtful gift of his own, splashing $3 million so that his wife could enjoy some much-needed peace and quiet on her private island in North Abaco, Bahamas.
With the intrusion of photographers always being a problem for the pair, Jay made the purchase back in 2013, where the Carters are said to vacation quite frequently when the family is looking to take a break from work without having to worry about their privacy being invaded.
The couple, who’ve been together since 2002, have come a long way considering how their relationship has often been plagued by negative headlines, alleging that Jay allegedly hasn’t always been faithful to Bey.
In November 2017 interview with the New York Times, the Roc Nation CEO explained what had led to his marital problems, explaining how enduring trauma in his childhood would end up affecting his role and duties as a father and husband.
"The hardest thing is seeing pain on someone's face that you caused, and then have to deal with yourself," he shared.
"You have to survive. So you go into survival mode, and when you go into survival mode, what happens? You shut down all emotions. So, even with women, you gonna shut down emotionally, so you can't connect. In my case, like, it's deep. And then all the things happen from there: infidelity.”
Beyonce spoke out about Jay’s cheating affairs on her studio album Lemonade in 2016, where she detailed almost walking out on her man, who’d been sharing a fling with “Becky with the good hair.”
It would appear that the Carters are on much better terms these days, and any issues they were faced with over the years are more or less a thing of the past. The fact that they're still together evidently proves that Beyonce and Jay have worked tremendously hard at keeping their marriage intact, though it's clearly not always been easy for the two.
