Since The Big Bang Theory came to an end, Helberg has remained extremely active, in 2022 along he worked on three projects including As They Made Us, Space Oddity and Poker Face.

His first project following the sitcom caught many by surprise. He appeared alongside Adam Driver in a drama musical, Annette. Speaking alongside Coming Soon, the actor was very aware that he was taking a risk, though it was refreshing for his career to take on such a diverse role.

"It’s true, I’ve done a lot of comedy and I think that people who tend to do comedy always want to try to show different sides of themselves. It usually comes from a place of darkness or despair. So sometimes it is nice to just wallow in that a little bit. Yeah, this was a good opportunity to wallow."

Helberg further stated that even when he got the role, he wasn't entirely sure on what to expect given how different of a world it all was. Clearly, the gamble worked, as the actor remains extremely busy in different genres were not accustomed to seeing The Big Bang Theory star in.
