Throughout her career, Billie Eilish has been known for wearing her signature “baggy clothes” look. The Grammy-award-winning artist revealed in the past that wearing baggy clothes was a way for her to hide her body due to physical insecurities.

Eilish’s bold fashion statement was often labeled as an act of defiance, but she simply did it because wanted to avoid being sexualized by the media.

In her latest British Vogue cover, the “Your Power” singer is shedding that image and trading it in for tight-fitted lingerie. Even though the internet went crazy over the new look, a writer from the Daily Mail had something negative to say about the cover.

The sexist headline criticized Eilish for changing her look after “vowing” to conceal her body. The original headline read, “Proof that money can make you change your values and 'sell out': Billie Eilish shocks fans by swapping baggy clothes for lingerie in British Vogue — despite years of vowing to 'hide her body.'"

In a now-deleted Instagram Story, Eilish called out the sexist headline by sharing an image created by internet influencer Emily Clarkson. The fan altered the original statement to say:

This isn’t the first time Eilish has embraced her body and slammed body shaming. Last year, the “Bad Guy” singer released a short film titled Not My Responsibility, which was supposed to premiere during her Where Do We Go? World Tour.

“Do you know me? Really know me?” Eilish said as she unzipped her hoodie to showcase her physique. “You have opinions about my opinions, about my music, about my clothes, about my body. But I feel you watching. Always. And nothing I do goes unseen.”

Eilish has always been open about the reasoning her decision to wear baggy clothes. In a 2019 advertisement for Calvin Klein, she revealed why loose-fitting clothes hide parts of herself from the world.

"I never want the world to know everything about me," she explained. "That’s why I wear baggy clothes. Nobody can have an opinion because they haven’t seen what’s underneath.”

“Nobody can be like, ‘she’s slim-thick,’ ‘she’s not slim-thick,’ ‘she’s got a flat a**,’ ‘she’s got a fat a**.’ No one can say any of that because they don’t know."

Although Eilish had her reservations about doing the cover, she wanted to make a statement.

“If I’m honest with you, I hate my stomach, and that’s why," Eilish told Vogue. "'If you’re about body positivity, why would you wear a corset? Why wouldn’t you show your actual body?’ My thing is that I can do whatever I want."
