Meme-Famous 'Blinking White Guy' Is Using His Fame To Raise Money For Charity

Drew Scanlon, the man behind the Blinking White Guy meme, is using his internet fame to raise money for a good cause.

Humans are using their voices less and less to communicate with each other. In fact, we are even using words less and less too. If we're in a hurry, or even just feel like it, we might reply to a message with a simple emoji, meme, gif, or photo of some sort. Some memes and gifs are more famous than others but do you actually know the people behind them.

Think about it for a second. Most of the memes and gifs you probably use on a regular basis feature a face you had never seen prior to stumbling across that picture. Blinking White Guy, for example. You've all seen it, most of you have probably used it. Whenever someone is confused by something online, chances are it will show up in the replies on multiple occasions.

Now for the million-dollar question, who is that guy? Well, thanks to his charity work, we now know. Blinking White Guy's real name is Drew Scanlon, reports Metro. Scanlon has been putting his meme fame to good use and raising money for the National MS Society, a charity which raises money for people suffering from multiple sclerosis.

"If this GIF has ever brought you joy in the past, I humbly ask you to consider making a donation to the National MS Society," Scanlon wrote. He has certainly done enough work to warrant those donations too. Scanlon rode his bike a whopping 120 miles from San Francisco to Wine Country. That distance has earned him over $30,000 thus far, but the hope is that the total will continue to rise.

Scanlon didn't simply pick the name of which charity he was going to donate to out of a hat. The National MS Society is a cause close to his heart due to two of his close friends and members of their families suffering from the condition. The response on social media has been an overwhelmingly positive one too. Plus, as well as people sharing their own stories, there has obviously been an awful lot of Blinking White Guy meme reactions too.
