Brad Pitt is one of the biggest and most successful actors on the planet, and after taking home his first Oscar win in recent years, there is simply nothing left for him to accomplish. Despite this, Pitt is still staying on his A-game in an effort to deliver the goods and further cement his legacy.

Back in 1999, Pitt starred alongside Edward Norton in Fight Club, which has since gone down as a classic. To prepare for the role of Tyler Durden, Pitt went above and beyond, making some serious changes to his teeth.

Let’s take a closer look at how Pitt prepared for Fight Club.

The Movie Becomes A Classic

Released back in 1999, Fight Club used sharp writing, excellent direction, and stellar acting to make an impression on movie fans worldwide. When looking at the box office haul that the movie had, some fans might be surprised to see a number that is not indicative of a major blockbuster, but the legacy that the film left behind was far more valuable than a short-term box office gross.

According to BoxOfficeMojo, the film was able to pull down $100 million worldwide. Not bad, but it certainly could have been a much bigger hit. The film was able to get some solid reviews from the critics, but the fans loved it far more. This has been largely why the film’s legacy has lived on long since its release in 1999.

The success of the film’s DVD certainly boosted its legacy, and the rise of actual underground fight clubs meant that the movie most certainly caught on everywhere, even if people weren’t following the first rule. Over the years, fans have wondered if a second Fight Club movie would ever get made.

Will A Sequel Ever Happen?

For the unfamiliar, there is a Fight Club 2 that was published, albeit in comic book format as opposed to the first story’s novel format. Because of this, fans have speculated that a sequel could come down the line. Apparently, Pitt himself has expressed interest in making another Fight Club movie.

According to FanSided, “[Brad Pitt is] determined to convince his old costar and pal Edward Norton to revive their mega-hit with an exciting new sequel. Ed’s much happier with his low-key life these days and he doesn’t need the money, so it was a big effort for Brad to get him to even consider it.”

“Studios are jumping all over it, desperate to bring back the lucrative movie for another round. Ed’s become a totally chilled-out guy these days and even does yoga in his spare time, but Brad’s at least got him on board for talks,” the report continued.

It has been several years since those talks really heated up, so it is possible that the project could never see the light of day. Nevertheless, the interest from fans and Pitt is there, and the movie could do big business at the box office if it does see a release. We have to wonder if Pitt would undergo cosmetic changes again if the sequel happens.

It’s no secret that top actors are willing to do just about anything and everything in order to perfectly transform into a character they are playing. Some performers take this to an extreme, even undergoing cosmetic changes in order to really do the most with their performance. In the case of Brad Pitt starring in Fight Club, the actor had some unique dental work done to play Tyler Durden.

Reported by EW back in 1998, the blurb about Pitt’s transformation for the movie is both hilarious and depressing to read, as it reminds all of us who were around back then just how old we are now.

As EW hilariously wrote over 20 years ago, “Brace yourselves, teenyboppers. On the set of his latest film, Fight Club (directed by Seven‘s David Fincher), Brad Pitt has undertaken a decidedly unsexy form of Method acting by voluntarily chipping out pieces of his front teeth to play a man who brawls in illegal underground bouts. No stranger to cosmetically glamming down his pinup looks (remember his grotesque pried-open eye in 12 Monkeys?), Pitt visited a dentist for his new snaggle-toothed grin.”

This was a pretty drastic move by Pitt, but clearly, he understood the assignment and wanted to go above and beyond what a normal performer would do. Thankfully, this wound up playing a part in him delivering a stellar performance in a movie that has endured for over 20 years.
