As one of the best directors on the planet, Quentin Tarantino knows a thing or two about making a great movie. It all starts with the script, but a script still needs to be brought to life by a great cast. The casting process is tough, but getting it right can take a great script to another level.

Eli Roth and Brad Pitt were both cast in Inglourious Basterds, which was already poised to be a huge hit on the big screen. While filming together, Pitt wound up catching a whiff off of Roth, who was particularly smelly that day. Pitt had some hygiene advice, but many would consider it weird.

Let’s take a closer look at what Brad Pitt said to Eli Roth when giving him some hygiene advice.

Whenever Quentin Tarantino is gearing up to make a movie, it always makes big news. The man is a legend of the business who is responsible for some of the greatest movies ever made. One thing he does better than most is cast his characters well, and for Inglourious Basterds, Tarantino tabbed both Eli Roth and Brad Pitt for some of the film’s most memorable characters.

Before he landed the role of Donny Donowitz, Roth had been in the game for years. Not only had he shown the ability to thrive in front of the camera, but his work behind it caught the attention of plenty of people, as well. Incredibly, he directed Nation’s Pride, which was the film being shown in Inglourious Basterds. This added a nice ripple to the film and a nice bit of trivia for movie fans to learn.

Pitt, meanwhile, was already a major A-list star prior to being cast as Aldo Raine. This was Pitt’s first time working with Tarantino, and it took no time at all to see that he was capable of making magic with the director. Needless to say, fans loved every bit of Pitt’s performance in the film.

With the cast in place, it was time to shoot the movie. During this time, Pitt wound up giving Roth some unusual hygiene advice.

Pitt’s Unusual Advice

Working on set can be tough for all involved, and most people don’t realize just how much time actors spending getting everything right. Sometimes, this can lead to an actor being unable to get some basic things done, like showering. For Eli Roth, this left him smelling terribly, which caught the attention of Brad Pitt, who proceeded to give him some unusual advice.

According to Roth, “He shared that when you’re sweating and don’t have time to take a shower, you just take a baby wipe and rub it under your armpits. After a scene, Brad had to get next to me for a close-up shot, and he said, ‘Damn, you’re ripe.’ I said, ‘I didn’t have time to shower.’ He said, ‘Baby wipes, man, baby wipes.’”

Roth continued, saying, “I thought that was the greatest tip. My character is called the Bear Jew. If I ever started to smell like a bear, I would just use a couple baby wipes under the armpits, and it made it safe for everyone else to act around me.”

This was some unusual advice from Pitt, but considering that he has been around the block and has been with women like Jennifer Aniston and Angelina Jolie, we might have to take his word for it. Nevertheless, Roth took the advice to heart, and over time, filming was completed. All that was left now was to see if the film was going to be another hit for Tarantino.
