Brie Larson started actively working on her acting career over ten years ago when she landed minor roles in movies, such as Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and 13 Going on 30. After years of hard work and playing supporting characters, she finally got to star in Short Term 12 in 2013.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt might have won us over with his tweets, but he failed to do so with his director/writer debut. Don Jon (2013) wasn't as successful as it was ambitious. The movie reflected upon really serious topics, such as objectification of women and addiction, but it unfortunately got a relatively low rating of 6.5.

Brie Larson played the titular character's sister who can't stop staring at her phone. It was a minor role, though. She spoke for less than a minute.

Kong: Skull Island (2017) was one of Brie Larson's biggest roles besides Captain Marvel. It is set in the sixties, on an island somewhere in the South Pacific. Brie portrayed Mason Weaver, an anti-war photographer who managed to form a bond with the enormous ape that lived on the island.

Kong was the last of his species on that island; he was fighting a war of his own with the so-called Skullcrawlers.

8 Captain Marvel (6.9)

In 2019, Brie Larson's name became synonymous with Captain Marvel, also known as Carol Danvers. After being exposed to Tesseract energy, she became a superhero. It's an entertaining movie, but far from being the very best in the MCU. After all, it got a very low rating compared to other movies from the franchise, 6.9.

Growing up with free-spirited parents might sound fun in theory, but the children from The Glass Castle (2017) would beg to differ. Larson played Jeannette, a parentified child who managed to escape the bleak lifestyle of her childhood, only to be haunted by the feelings of responsibility towards her parents forever.

The movie was based on a memoir by Jeannette Walls and it also stars Naomi Watts, Woody Harrelson, and Max Greenfield. Due to its moving plot and a stellar cast, the movie deserved the rating of 7.1.

6 The Spectacular Now (7.1)

Brie Larson wasn't the biggest star of this coming-of-age drama that revolved around a high school senior, Sutter (Miles Teller), struggling with alcoholism. She played Sutter's girlfriend who broke up with him in the beginning of the movie.

Sutter quickly found a new romantic interest, Aimee (Shailene Woodley). She was his polar opposite: organized, innocent, and book-smart. But don't be mistaken; this is no rom-com. It's a realistic drama, which means that life gets in the way of their blossoming love.

Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill joined forces for this iconic buddy cop movie from 2012. Brie Larson played Hill's character's love interest, Molly Tracey.

The two policemen assumed identities of high school students in order to find out more about a certain drug that was circulating around the school. It's funny, suspenseful, and easy-going.

4 Just Mercy (7.6)

Destin Daniel Cretton's Just Mercy (2019) is a biographical legal drama that follows the story of a young lawyer, Bryan Stevenson (Michael B. Jordan), on his path to help those who need help the most in the legal system. He decided to help Walter McMillian (Jamie Foxx), an innocent man who was sentenced to death.

Brie Larson portrayed Eva Ansley, the local advocate with whom Bryan founded the Equal Justice Initiative. The movie and its actors received several accolades.

3 Short Term 12 (8.0)

Short Term 12 (2013) is the perfect movie to watch if you want to see just how talented Brie Larson truly is. This was her first leading role. She portrayed Grace Howard, a supervisor at the titular group home for troubled teenagers.

It's not just the teenager who are troubled, though. Grace just found out that she was pregnant and while her boyfriend Mason couldn't be happier, she was thinking about getting an abortion instead.

Just two years after Larson got to shine in Short Term 12, she landed a role that brought her an Academy Award. Room (2015) is a character-driven movie. Larson portrayed a mother who was being held captive in a little shed somewhere in Toronto for years. She did her best to make the environment as stimulating as possible for her son.
