Britney Spears fans are not feeling Justin Timberlake's apology to ex-girlfriend Britney Spears and pop legend Janet Jackson.

In an apparent case of damned if you do, damned if you don't - Timberlake finally apologized to the singers.

His apology comes 19 years after the "Cry Me A River" singer publicly blaming Brit for their break up. Jackson was crucified after Timberlake tore off her costume at the 2004 Super Bowl to expose her breast, to which he never took responsibility for.

In the long Instagram post, the 40-year old dad of two said: "I specifically want to apologize to Britney Spears and Janet Jackson both individually, because I care for and respect these women and I know I failed."

Timberlake's regretful post comes after he was dragged online following the release of documentary, Framing Britney Spears.

The film lays bare how Spears has been exploited by the men in her life - including her father who currently had conservatorship over her estate.

Spears dated Timberlake from 1999 until 2002 after meeting at The Mickey Mouse Club. They split abruptly amid rumors she cheated on him.

His career soared and Britney's was vilified.

His first solo album "Justified" was promoted under the narrative that Spears broke his heart. In the music video for his 2002 hit "Cry Me A River" he even used a Britney lookalike.

It's so far unclear if Timberlake has been in touch with the Britney or Janet to apologize privately.

However some Britney fans have doubted Timberlake's sincerity and have pointed to personal stories about the singer in his everyday life.

"I know someone who used to work at a luxury boutique in Wynn, Las Vegas. She assisted Cameron Diaz and Justin when they were dating and told me that Justin was very rude and disrespectful to Cameron. He is very talented, but doesn't seem like a nice person," one fan wrote online.

"I worked at the o2. Back stage bar. He threw money in the air and expected us to be grateful," a second added.

"I heard he threw the actress he was in the movie Palmer with and held hands with under the bus too. She's not been involved in any of the press for the film and it could have been a big break for her," third chimed in.
