Britney Spears fans reacted in horror after the trailer for The New York Times' documentary series examining her long-running conservatorship dropped.

The trailer was released Thursday and promises to profile the former Disney Mouseketeers swift ascent to global fame.

It will also chronicle her heavily scrutinized mental health and legal struggles that followed close behind.

One interviewee declared in the trailer, “How we treated her was disgusting.”

The Toxic singer has been under a conservatorship run by her father Jamie Spears since 2008.

The trailer opens with a black-and-white childhood photo of a beaming Britney as a woman says via voiceover:

"Britney was so focused. This was a girl that's coming from strength."

Accompanying the introduction were pictures of Britney from early in her career that have an aura of innocence to them.

Her father Jamie has been in control of his daughter's finances since her very public breakdown in 2008. Last year, Spears’s lawyer, Sam Ingham, said that his client was "afraid" of her father and had claimed that she would not perform again while he remained conservator. “She accepted the conservatorship was going to happen, but she didn't want her father to be conservator,” a voiceover claims in the trailer.
“Any time there's that amount of money to be made, you have to question the motives of everyone,” another speaker points out. When the trailer was released, Britney fans reacted in fury of her treatment at the hands of her father. "She is being abused; her family lets her post after taking her meds to add to the perception she is crazy. She is the cash cow and keeping her chained and medicated keeps them in control," one fan wrote.
