September 26 saw fans rush to their screens to watch CNN’s Toxic: Britney Spears' Battle For Freedom.

The television special touched on several aspects of Britney Spearsongoing legal conservatorship case against her father, Jamie Spears. However, it seems as though their information hadn’t been well-sourced as it has since come under fire for “spreading misinformation.”

According to a recent TMZ article, a source close to them has detailed Spears’ personal opinions on the documentary and where it may have missed the mark. For example, the article states that Spears herself had claimed the documentary to be “full of inaccuracies” despite only having watched a small portion of it.

In response to this, many Twitter users have rushed to slam both CNN and the documentary. The spread of misinformation came as no surprise to many as they believed it to be typical of the broadcasting channel.

For example, one user stated, “Say it ain’t so! I mean it’s CNN what do you expect.”

Following the release of the documentary, a video of Spears was uploaded onto the singer’s Instagram account. The video shows Spears looking straight into the camera in an all-white attire which, according to the caption, symbolized “new beginnings.”

The caption attached to the video contained what seemed to be Spears’ opinions on what she had seen the documentary portray.

Spears bashed the documentary as she stated: “It's really crazy guys ... I watched a little bit of the last documentary and I must say I scratched my head a couple of times !!! I really try to disassociate myself from the drama !!! Number one ... that's the past !!! Number two ... can the dialogue get any classier ??? Number three ... wow they used the most beautiful footage of me in the world !!! What can I say .. the EFFORT on their part !!! Wow ..”

Following the post, fans took to the comments section to express their concerns for the singer. Many caused an uproar as they believed that the words had not come from Spears as her phone had been monitored and taken away. The further emphasis on the lack of control over her own accounts, caused enraged fans to plead that Spears be liberated from the constant surveillance and silencing.

Whilst another desperately pleaded, “THIS ISN’T BRITNEY!!!! GIVE HER INSTAGRAM BACK FREE BRITNEY.”

The mass coverage on Spears’ case continues with Netflix’s Britney Vs. Spears documentary, September 28.
