Remember when Bruno Mars' former publicist Vladimir Kershov was fired for leaking private information revealing that Michael Jackson is the 24K Magic singer's biological father? It all remains a theory, but of all their many similarities, there's one that actually proves they're not necessarily blood-related. It's their separate family backgrounds—coincidentally the same interests but still very different.

Michael Jackson started his career with Jackson 5, a pop band composed of him and his brothers, Jackie, Tito, Germaine, and Marlon. Their sister, Janet, and Tito's sons, TJ, Taj, and Taryll eventually joined the music industry as well. Like the King of Pop, Bruno Mars also grew up in a household of entertainers—both his parents and his five siblings have all taken up careers in the industry.

The Cool Parents

Bruno Mars was born Peter Gene Hernandez Jr. in Honolulu, Hawaii. His father, Peter Gene Hernandez was a New Yorker percussionist for Love & Money and Cecilia & Kapono. His mother, Bernadette was a hula dancer. Bruno's parents met while performing together at a show, and they raised their family in the entertainment scene as well. Because of that, Bruno developed an early interest in Elvis Presley's music.

That interest later grew into a serious musical passion that prompted him to move to Los Angeles at the age of eighteen in 2003. Not long after his move, the Grenade singer signed with Motown Records. He later left to join Atlantic Record Corporation. But it was the production team, Smeezingtons, which he co-founded that put him on the map in less than seven years of being in Los Angeles.

The team produced the hit singles, Nothin on You by rapper B.O.B and Billionaire by Travie McCoy, which both featured Bruno's vocals. He shortly released his debut album Doo-Wops & Hooligans which carried the international number-one hits, Just the Way You AreGrenade, and The Lazy Song. Bruno scored his first Grammy win for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for Just the Way You Are.

The Hooligans' Drummer: Eric 'E-Panda' Hernandez

A huge part of Bruno Mars' showmanship is the loyal band behind him, The Hooligans. The drummer of the band is none other than Bruno's older brother, Eric 'E-Panda' Hernandez. He's also the oldest Hernandez sibling. He's been the band's drummer ever since his younger brother's career began. But he's already established his career even before Bruno did. Eric started drumming at the age of 4 while his professional career started as early as 10 in Hawaii.

He played 6 nights a week for 8 years for The Lovenote Show—a variety show dedicated to the music of the 50's to 70's. Those long shifts enabled him to master different drumming styles like soul, funk, rock, and even reggae. He became one of the most famous drummers in Hawaii. In 1995, he moved to Los Angeles where he quickly became the session/touring drummer of the alternative pop band, Louie Says.

The Lylas: Presley, Tahiti, and Tiara Hernandez and Jaime Kailani Bayot

In 2013, Bruno Mars' sisters began following in his footsteps by forming their girl band, The Lylas (acronym for Love Ya Like a Sister), which was also the title of their reality show. The group became more focused on their musical ambitions when their mom, Bernadette passed away. They were really close to their mom that they even called themselves The Bernadettes when they first got together.

Jaime, the oldest sister and second oldest sibling is actually a cousin, but she was adopted by the Hernandez family as a sister to Bruno, Eric, Presley, Tahiti, and Tiara. She's the founder of the non-profit organization, Mama Earth. She also served as Bruno's booking manager in 2007. She's now a mother of two boys.

Tiara was a preschool teacher before pursuing music full-time and is now a surfer, music teacher, and festival founder. Tahiti, the bombshell of the group has been singing since she was three. She's now married to professional surfer, Billy Kemper. They have four beautiful children.

Presley, the youngest in the family, is just as vocally talented as most of her siblings. She's also ventured into acting and producing. She's changed her last name to Mahone following her marriage to hip-hop artist, Kealoha 'K-Luv' Mahone whom she has two children with.

It seems like they're raising another generation of musically inclined siblings. Bruno Mars and his wife, Jessica Caban are also reportedly close to their nephews and nieces. We're sure these kids will grow up loving the music scene as well. In no time, we'll probably be seeing them with their 11-time Grammy Award-winning uncle on stage.
