Through its diverse talent pool, BTS has established itself as the leading international boy band, and from their tremendous achievements, it's fair to say they might be popular enough to rival The Beatles. Here are the stories behind BTS members' stage names.

J-Hope

J-Hope's real name is Jung Ho Seo. While his stage name is a fun wordplay on his real name, there's also a symbolic meaning behind it. He drew inspiration from the Greek myth of Pandora's box: after all the evil things in the world fell out of the box, all that was left was hope. And this is why J-Hope is a perfect name for someone who is always giving hope to others.

Suga

The audacious rapper on stage is both multi-talented and enigmatic. Suga, as he's commonly called in BTS, was born Min Yoon-gi on March 9th, 1993, in Daegu Metropolitan City, South Korea. He sings, raps, writes songs, produces music, and dances very well, something BTS is known for. In an interview with Cuvism Magazine, he revealed that BigHit Entertainment's CEO, Bang Si Hyuk, suggested the name Suga. His stage name is made up of the first two parts of the words "shooting guard." He liked the idea since he played basketball in that position.

V

"Young, adorable, and exciting." Those would be the first thoughts to enter the mind of anyone once they take a look at BTS Taehyung's remarkably refined face and listen to his deep and husky-smooth voice. The singer has quickly found his place at the pinnacle of Kpop's success. He chose "V" as his stage name because it represents victory.

Jin, Jungkook & Jimin

These three members of BTS use abbreviations of their real names. Jeon Jung-kook, better known as the Golden Maknae, is one of the most beloved members of BTS. The idol has topped music charts, trended on several social media platforms, and continues to display a charming personality and charisma that has captured his fans' hearts.

On the other hand, Park Ji-min constantly proves his worth as one of the band's lead vocalists and frontline dancers in every BTS performance. He is also the lovely Aegyo (cutie) of the band that doesn't hesitate to display his impressive physique to fans.

Kim Seok-jin, aka Jin, has proven himself a capable singer. Time Magazine praised the idol for his exquisite performance and delivery of the bittersweet emotion of wrestling between holding and letting go in the song Let Go.

RM

Kim Nam-Joon, RM, is the charismatic rapper and leader of the boy band and a major part of the success of BTS both in Korea and in the international scene. He learned English all by himself from watching the famous American sitcom Friends. Today, and in his own words, he's the group's translator. After a couple of years, he changed his stage name from Rap Monster to RM. According to All Kpop, he further explained why saying, "When I say the name Rap Monster, it feels like it's too much. I thought it was so cool, so I used it, but I didn't want to be limited just to rap. I was worried about living just like my name, so I changed it."

The band has set numerous records in Korea and abroad, such as being the first Korean act to top the Billboard 200 Chart and sell out arenas in the USA and UK. There's no doubt that the acclaimed boy band will keep making history.
