Given the fact that Buffy the Vampire Slayer started out as a movie that not that many people saw or cared about, it is truly remarkable how successful its television adaptation later became. After all, not only did the series stay on the air long enough to broadcast seven seasons, but it came to an end on May 20th, 2003 and people are still discovering it all the time.
Of course, just because a show has developed a loyal fan base doesn’t mean that all of its viewers have kept up on the lives of the actors who helped bring it to life. In fact, many former viewers may be surprised by how some members of the show’s cast look as of late. With that in mind, it is time to get to this list of 15 photos that show what the cast of TV’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer look like now.
15 Danny Strong
Seen in 29 episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, in the show Danny Strong played a warlock and member of the Trio known as Jonathan Levinson. Looking quite a bit older in this picture of him from a recent event (alongside Sarah Michelle Gellar), Strong has gone on to be a television writer, producer, and director in recent years.
14 Marc Blucas
At one time a short-term member of our beloved Scooby Gang, the Buffy character Marc Blucas played, Riley Finn, was a covert operative of the United States government. As good looking as ever in this photo, although in a very different way, Blucas has kept busy acting in a number of TV movies over the last several years.
13 Amber Benson
One of two Buffy characters whose passing took fans by complete surprise, Tara Maclay was brought to life by Amber Benson who did an excellent job in the role. Pictured here posing with fellow actor Frazer Hines, these days Benson regularly makes appearances at fan events in addition to taking on acting roles here and there.
12 Kristine Sutherland
From one entry about an actor whose Buffy character’s death shocked viewers to another, this time around we are looking at Kristine Sutherland who brought Joyce Summers to life. Looking very happy to pose with fans in this photo, Sutherland hasn’t shown up in a movie or TV show since 2016 but according to IMDb, she has a pending project in post-production.
11 Seth Green
Among the most memorable Buffy the Vampire Slayer characters, Seth Green’s Oz was beloved enough among the show’s writers and fans that he appeared in 40 different episodes. Arguably the former Buffy actor whose career is going the best these days, Green has definitely matured but he seems to not have aged much.
10 Charisma Carpenter
Popular enough that she appeared in 58 episodes of Buffy and then became one of the main characters in the spin-off Angel, Charisma Carpenter played Cordelia Chase successfully for many years. Shown here alongside her fellow actor Tricia Helfer while both were on a flight, Carpenter has continued to get consistent work over the years although mostly under the radar as of late.
9 David Boreanaz
Speaking of actors who went on to star in the Buffy spin-off show Angel, David Boreanaz was such a big part of the latter series that it was named after his character. Looking about the same aside from aging some and sporting a beard in this image, Boreanaz has gone on to star in a number of other shows, including Bones which was a big success.
8 Eliza Dushku
One of two actors who were cast as Slayers in the Buffy TV show that appears on this list, it didn’t take long for Eliza Dushku’s character Faith Lehane to receive a fan following. Still a gorgeous looking person to this day, Dushku hasn’t been seen on the big or little screen since 2017 but hopefully, that changes sometime soon.
7 Emma Caulfield Ford
Said to be more than a thousand years old, Emma Caulfield Ford’s Buffy character Anya was a “vengeance demon” who went on to become a member of the Scooby Gang for a time. Seen here at the red carpet event for the film Velvet Buzzsaw, Caulfield Ford’s biggest role of late was appearing in several episodes of the show Fantasy Hospital.
6 James Marsters
Cast as one of this show’s most interesting characters, James Marsters was fantastic in the role of Spike, a widely feared vampire whose relationship with Buffy was nuanced and at times disturbing. Seen here with another former Buffy actor, Iyari Limon, Marsters remains an in-demand performer and currently stars in the MCU series Runaways.
5 Alyson Hannigan
One of only three characters to appear in every episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the importance of Alyson Hannigan’s Willow Rosenberg to the success of this show would be hard to overestimate. Seen here with her daughter having their picture taken with Gwen Stefani, Hannigan arguably is even more famous for her years starring in the show How I Met Your Mother.
4 Michelle Trachtenberg
Far from the most popular Buffy the Vampire Slayer character, when Michelle Trachtenberg began starring in the show as Dawn Summers her inclusion was widely derided by viewers. Last seen on the little screen in 2018, Trachtenberg hasn’t acted much of late but as you can tell by this image here, her look hasn’t changed all that much over the years.
3 Anthony Head
The mentor of Buffy Summers and the rest of the Scooby Gang, Anthony Head’s character Rupert Giles was an expert in the occult who took his young charges under his wing. Obviously, a very talented actor, Head continues to land notable roles all of the time and these images were even taken of him on the set of an upcoming Netflix thriller named The Stranger.
2 Nicholas Brendon
Probably the most notable member of the Scooby Gang aside from this show’s titular character, Xander Harris was much beloved in large part because of Nicholas Brendon’s portrayal of him. Looking quite a bit older in this image that shows his salt and pepper hair, Brendon is set to star in an upcoming series named Dark/Web and he wrote for the “Buffy Season 10” comic book for a while.
1 Sarah Michelle Gellar
Definitely, the actor who is most closely associated with this show, Buffy the Vampire Slayer is named after Sarah Michelle Gellar’s character in the series for good reason. An extremely likable actor who looks very down to Earth, Gellar seems to be content with her home life for the most part but she is set to appear in an upcoming TV mini-series called Sometimes I Lie.
