What Did Cara Delevingne Do At The Met Gala?

Each year, the Met Gala invites the most well-known stars, the wealthiest influencers, and top models and performers in the US. Cara Delevingne is well-fit for at least two categories to be invited: first, she is Britain's highest-paid model; second, she is a well-decorated actress known for her role as Enchantress in the Suicide Squad, which received "horrific" criticisms.

The British supermodel has been present at the Met Gala since 2011, proving that Anna Wintour, the long-time editor-in-chief of Vogue and organizer of the Met Gala, recognized her presence in the fashion industry even more than a decade ago.

Cara has received polarizing reactions from fashion enthusiasts over her 11 years of attending the Met. However, her outfit for this year's Met Gala seems to receive the most polarizing comments. Wearing a red velvet suit, she surprised the media when she removed her top and showed off the gold-painted Psoriasis marks on her upper body.

Who Styled Cara Delevingne For The Met Gala?

Flaunting her gold-painted torso, Cara Delevingne didn't stray away from the 2022 Met Gala theme of 'Gilded Glamour.' Her team consisted of Romy Soleimani, who did her make-up that focused on accentuating her androgynous beauty; Mara Roszak, who did her gold-inspire hairstyle; and Dior, who gave her suit, were all responsible for her Met look.

Cara Delevingne does not conform to traditional fashion norms as she is one who proudly shows off her visible tattoo. As tattoos do not always compliment the overall theme a designer has over their fashion line, it makes models like Cara have more difficulty in booking jobs.

As models are moving mannequins who wear designer's original clothing on runways and photo shoots, one of the first criteria of most modeling agencies is for a model to have no tattoos. However, with the help of her mentor Tyra Banks and her androgynous beauty, brands have moved past seeing Cara's visible lower arm tattoo as she is now considered one of the best supermodels worldwide.

What Skin Condition Does Cara Delevingne Have?

As an actress, handling all the spotlight on you as soon as you gain a following is challenging. As a model, it is more difficult to take all the criticisms about one's body because the work primarily involves being in front of the camera and being judged for their physical appearance.

Cara has been fighting off bashers even back in 2020 when Instagram followers kept on leaving toxic weight comments on her selfie. But for Cara, both an actress and a model, criticisms have no place in her life, but the stress of looking good was grave enough that it already led to her getting Psoriasis.

Psoriasis, a disease that makes a person feel reddish, itchy skin, is incurable and has various reasons for the body to trigger its spread. Cara opened up about her having Psoriasis in her interview with W, saying, "It [Psoriasis showing up] only happened during Fashion Week!" she said. "Which is, of course, the worst time of the year for me [Cara] to be covered in scabs."

Since she has been dealing with her skin disease for quite some time now, she has learned to hide it in different ways. For example, she would get her Psoriasis painted before runways so that her skin would look equal in shades all over. That's why her, again, painting her Psoriasis for the Met Gala wasn't new, but what was new was the gold paint used to cover it.

What Are Fans Saying About Cara Delevingne's Psoriasis?

Even before the Met Gala, Cara's fans were already pleased to see one of their favorite models struggle with the same disease some of them also have. Saying how 'brave' and 'inspiring' she is for showing her Psoriasis to millions, Cara proved that there's nothing to be ashamed of about having this skin disease.

However, other fashion enthusiasts have also criticized Cara Delevingne for painting her Psoriasis gold. Some critics say that it seems 'improper' of her to show off her Psoriasis in a way that could set an unrealistic standard for girls to get used to covering their disease to be more beautiful.

Nonetheless, Cara continues to advocate for accepting Psoriasis as a common skin disease worldwide. Along with her other advocacies, such as gender equality, she continuously uses her platform to raise awareness for women's rights, especially young girls.
