What Cardi B Has Said About Working With Kanye West

In an interview with Apple Music, Cardi opened up about West's verse and said it was "personal" but "not personal" at the same time. In the song, the Donda artist raps: "Where you stand? Where was Jay at? Where was them at?/Where you done that? Where you live at? Another headline, 'Where your hat at? Go home, where your kids at?'"

According to the mother of two, Ye sent the verse "a couple of months ago when he was just all over the media, because of all of the things that were going on."

"I like how his verse it's personal, but it's not personal," Cardi reflected on the Yeezy founder's verse. "It's enjoyable in the clubs that you could be like, 'Yeah, yeah. You talk your big cash.' I really love it." She added that she wishes people could have personal conversations with the controversial rapper the way she has, so everyone can see "the real him."

Without mentioning his scandals, the Bodak Yellow singer kind of defended Ye, saying that "he got his reasons why he believes" in the things that drew him flak recently. "It's almost like a persona, but kind of not," Cardi said of West's bizarre antics. "Let's say if he believes in something, right? And you'll be like, 'Do you really believe in this? Because you just want to be different or do you really believe in it?' And he's like, 'Yeah, I really believe in it.'"

She continued: "But he got his reasons why he believe in it. And when he give you this reasons, you'll be like, 'Oh, okay. That does make sense. I get it. I get why you think like that. I get why you feel that way. I understand where you're coming from.'"

Cardi also explained that getting Lil Durk on board her already iconic duo with West was important in bringing "that young energy" into the song. "I haven't really heard a lot of music in the club that it's like, when it comes on, it just made me want to throw bands," said the Hustlers star.

"I feel like we're missing these club bangers," she continued. "I don't know what's going on right now... You know these records that Meek used to do, I want to hear one of those that it's just like, pump me up. I'm trying to bring that with this record." During an Instagram Live, the rapper also explained what exactly made her new track different from her past hits.

"It's something that I feel like y'all haven't heard from me before," she stated. "I feel like people is expecting a lot of sl--ness and blah blah blah. Y'all keep talking I keep making TikTok records and this is definitely not that. It's a fun great record. It's masculine [and] it's great for the clubs. It's great for the b----es."

Cardi B Thinks Her Kanye West Collab Was Mishandled

Before the full song dropped on July 1, 2022, Hot Sh*t already faced a lot of issues. It kept being delayed. On June 27, Cardi addressed the matter and claimed that the plans were "not being executed how it's supposed to," causing her to think of canceling the release.

"So I wanted to cancel my release for this week because s*** is not being executed how it's supposed to," she said during an Instagram Live.

"But then I'm like, it's too drastic ... So I will be dropping the song ... but I will not be releasing a music video with this song," she continued. The New York native called out the other people handling the single and said that she was "tired" of them not doing things her way. "I'm so tired of people not doing their f*****g job correctly. I'm so tired of people just doing things their way," she shared.

So far, the track has been receiving praises from fans and celebrities alike. Lizzo even had a jaw-drop reaction to the song when it was played for her by Apple Music host, Zane Lowe.
