Every year the Met Gala is held on the first Monday in May, not only to raise money for The Met, but to also to mark the opening of the Costume Institute’s new exhibit. The Met Gala is like the fashion super bowl. The biggest stars show up to pose on the red carpet, and show off their best outfits. Over the years it has become an event that everyone talks about and can’t wait all year for.

Prior to each Met Gala, not only is a theme for dress announced, but co-chairs are named as well. Each year Anna Wintour selects one or more celebrity co-chairs to host alongside her. Over the years she’s made some great choices, and it only gets people watching even more, not only to see the fashion but to see their favorite celeb.

10 Julia Roberts - 2008

Back in 2008, Julia Roberts was one of the celebrity co-chairs of the Met Gala. The year that she was a co-chair, the theme was superheroes. Although celebs didn't follow the theme as much as they do today, she tried her best to match the thee herself as she wore a silver Armani dress. As the chair of the Met Gala every year, Anna Wintour gets to select the celebrities who co-chair alongside her. Not only did she select Julia Roberts that year, but she also picked George Clooney.

9 Justin Timberlake - 2009

Since Justin Timberlake is arguably one of the most famous people in the world, it would only make sense for him to co-chair the Met Gala at one point. His time came in 2009 where he was the co-chair alongside model Kate Moss.

That year, the theme was "The Model as Muse." Of course, there were a ton of models in attendance, and having Kate moss as a co-chair only continued on with the theme. They even used a number of mannequins as decor and had one in the entrance that was over six feet tall.

8 Oprah Winfrey - 2010

It's no secret that Oprah Winfrey is one of the most powerful women in Hollywood as she has a huge influence. Knowing this, it really isn't a surprise that to find out that she was once a co-chair of the Met Gala back in 2010. As for the theme that year, it centered around American Women. Oprah is a very powerful and influential American Woman herself, so we do think that the theme for her time as co-chair of the Met Gala was a perfect choice.

7 Sarah Jessica Parker - 2014

Sarah Jessica Parker is known for her fashion in Sex And The City, which could explain why Ana Wintour selected her to be one of the co-chairs of the 2014 Met Gala. The theme for that year was a white-tie dress code. Alongside Sarah Jessica Parker, the other co-chairs were Bradley Cooper as well as Oscar de la Renta and Lizzie and Jonathan Tisch.

Sarah Jessica Parker really showed off her own fashion in an over-the-top black and white ballgown. The bodice was black while the skirt was a bright white with black lattice down the back, making sure to follow the theme herself. You definitely have to follow a theme if you're a co-chair!

6 Jennifer Lawrence - 2015

Back in 2015, Jennifer Lawrence was chosen to be a co-chair of the Met Gala. Jennifer might seem like an odd choice to be a co-chair of a fashion-centered event as she's not one of those celebrities who are obsessed with fashion. Despite that, she does often wear clothes from the biggest designers, so she's not completely clueless. During the year of her Met Gala reign, the theme was "China: Through The Looking Glass." Not a fashion queen herself, Jennifer couldn't possibly pass up an opportunity like this.

5 Taylor Swift - 2016

Taylor Swift has been a celebrity who has attended quite a few Met Galas over the years, so it really isn't a surprise to find out that she was once a co-chair of the event. Back in 2016 Taylor co-chaired the event where the theme was Manus x Machina. She took the theme to heart when she showed up in a silver cut out dress by Louis Vuitton. She even went as far as taking her blonde hair to another level by bleaching it platinum. Taylor proved that she was the perfect choice to be a co-chair of the event.

4 Katy Perry - 2017

Katy Perry is yet another celebrity who once co-chaired the Met Gala back in 2017. For that year, the theme song as “Comme sea Garçons’ Designer Rei Kawakubo. Katy has been known to take quite a few outfits to the next level, and isn’t afraid to experiment with fashion, making her a great selection for co-chair. Much like Rihanna, Katy is no stranger to attending the event, and has been known to turn quite a few heads. Of course, as co-chair she did the same, and proved that she was the right choice.

3 Rihanna - 2018

Rihanna is all about fashion, which it really wasn't surprising to find out that she was once a co-chair of the Met Gala. Back in 2018, the singer was a co-chair when the theme was “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination.” Rihanna is known to go above and beyond in whatever she decides to wear on the red carpet. Rihanna was a co-chair with some other fashion icons like Amal Clooney and Rihanna. Every year people look forward to seeing what Rihanna wears on the red carpet. Therefore, she’s the Queen of the Met Gala.

2 Harry Styles - 2019

Harry Styles is not only known for his talents and his time in One Direction but he's also known for his fashion sense. As a result, it makes a lot of sense that he was asked to be a co-chair of the Met Gala in 2019. The theme for that year was “Camp: Notes on Fashion.” Those who were invited were expected to wear over the top and overly exaggerated. Of course, because of the theme, the night was filled with celebrities wearing extraordinary and out of this world camp themed outfits, making Harry one of the best choices to co-chair.

1 Billie Eilish - 2021

Billie Eilish has been on top of the world as of late and has her own unique fashion sense. As a result, she has been selected to be one of the co-chairs of this year's Met Gala. This year’s theme is “In America: A Lexicon Of Fashion” and will be held in September of 2021 instead of May due to the pandemic. She is the youngest co-chair of the Met Gala ever. Timothee Chalamet, Amanda Gorman, and Naomi Osaka are the other co-chairs alongside Billie. We honestly can’t wait to see what she will show up to the event in!
