Several of Hollywood's biggest stars hail from Australia aka the "Land Down Under," which may surprise fans who have never heard them speak outside of their roles, thanks to their ability to fake an American accent for a role.

The nation has given us some of the most hardworking people in Hollywood, and we're not just talking about Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman. The stars listed below may live in Los Angeles or New York City, but they are as Aussie as it can get.

10 Liam Hemsworth

Actor Liam Hemsworth may have had an American accent for his movies like The Last Song and The Hunger Games, but this charming star was born in Melbourne, Australia, along with his famous brothers, Chris and Luke Hemsworth.

Since his divorce from Miley Cyrus in 2019, Marie Claire reported that Hemsworth has been living back home, in Byron Bay, close to older brother Chris Hemsworth. He has also moved on from the songstress, dating Australian model Gabriella Brooks.

9 Simon Baker

Actor Simon Baker had to fake his accent for his role as Patrick Jane in the popular series The Mentalist because this star actually hails from Launceston, northern Australia. Baker's other big roles included starring as Nicholas Fallin in The Guardian and he was Anne Hathaway's love interest in The Devil Wears Prada. 

For his role in The Mentalist, Baker was nominated for a Golden Globe, Primetime Emmy, and Independent Screen Actor's Guild Award, according to UInterview.

8 Rose Byrne

Rose Byrne may have been in countless movies like Bridesmaids, Neighbors, and Insidious, but this star got her start in acting back home in Australia. According to IMDb, Byrne was born in Balmain, Sydney, Australia, and received her first role when she was just 15-years-old, in the 1994 film, Dallas Doll.

Since then, she has been in several Australian tv shows and movies, but her big break in the U.S. came when she was cast as a handmaiden to Natalie Portman in Star Wars: Episode II: Attack of the Clones. Last summer, it was reported that she flew back to Byron Bay, Australia, amid the pandemic.

7 Heath Ledger

Heath Ledger was actually born in Perth, Australia, before making his acting debut in the United States. The actor, who died from an accidental prescription drug overdose in 2008, was in countless movies, including Brokeback Mountain, 10 Things I Hate About You, and The Dark Knight. 

In an interview with the New York Times, Ledger admitted that his role as The Joker in The Dark Knight kept him up at night as he described the character as "psychopathic, mass-murdering, schizophrenic clown with zero empathy."

6 Rebel Wilson

The very funny Rebel Wilson made her acting debut back home in Australia, before coming to the U.S. to become one of the biggest names in Hollywood. The star was born in Sydney, Australia, and began her career in several Australian television shows including SBS's Pizza, according to NewIdea.

5 Jacob Elordi

Euphoria fans should know that heartthrob Jacob Elordi was actually born in Brisbane, Australia, before breaking out in the U.S. in Netflix's rom-com The Kissing Booth and its sequel.

The star is making a name for himself in Hollywood with his role as Nate Jacobs in the HBO hit Euphoria, acting alongside Zendaya. Before he was cast for the show, the actor admitted that he was "practically homeless in L.A.," and fumbled his lines during the show's casting, however, he luckily got chosen to play the role of Nate and his life has forever changed.

4 Miranda Kerr

This stunning model hails from Australia and was actually a popular model back home before moving to New York City for more opportunities.

Her modeling career soon blossomed after she became one of the faces for Victoria's Secret lingerie, but hung up her angel wings in 2013. At the time she shared, "I'm not entering a new phase in my life. I have felt this coming since my son was born and, after I became a mother, I realized I needed to prioritize my time."

3 Margot Robbie

Margot Robbie has undoubtedly made a name for herself in Hollywood after starring in movies like The Wolf of Wall Street and played Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad. But, don't let her accent fool you, because this blonde beauty was born in Dalby, Queensland, Australia.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, Robbie admitted that she had aspirations to become a magician, but her interest in drama in high school made her change her career path.

2 Cate Blanchett

Cate Blanchett is one of the most famous actresses to hail from Australia and is known for her Oscar-winning performances in 2013's Blue Jasmine and 2004's The Aviator. When the star isn't making movies in Hollywood, she can be spotted back home in Sydney, Australia, with her husband, and their four children.

1 Elle MacPherson

Elle MacPherson made a name for herself in the modeling world in the '80s among celebrated models like Naomi Campbell and Cindy Crawford. However, the stunning model was born in Killara, New South Wales, Australia, before she booked a flight to New York City to make it big.

MacPherson has been in countless magazines and made a name for herself after appearing on Sports Illustrated's annual Swimsuit Issue, appearing on the cover for a record of five times.
