After successful eight seasons of Dexter, the writers completely butchered the finale, even more so than D&D did in Game of Thrones. Now, the show has a chance to redeem itself as a new season was announced. The release date is not known yet, but it is estimated to be later in 2021.

At least a part of season 9 will be set in Iron Lake, New York, but it is not known yet whether Dexter will come back to Miami at any point. If he does, he will probably run into some familiar faces. While the whole world thought that he died in a sea storm, he actually moved to Oregon where he started a new life as a lumberjack.

10 Want To See: Hannah McKay

Dexter didn't trust anybody, but he did trust Hannah McKay. The show ended with her in Argentina with Dexter's son, reading about Dexter's disappearance. It seemed as if she believed the news story as she wiped away a tear when reading.

If Harrison is to be a part of the new season, Hannah has to be too. Since Dexter's son probably matters to him, he should be expected to track her down.

9 Don't Want To See: Jamie Batista

via Screen Fiction

Jamie Batista didn't really add much to the story, so she probably won't be coming back for the revival. She is Angel Batista's sister who used to babysit Harrison for Dexter.

Even if Jamie never appeared in the original run, she wouldn't actually be missed. After all, she wasn't a main character.

8 Want To See: Joey Quinn

Joey Quinn is a great cop and he cared about Debra more than any other character in the show.

It would be interesting to see him track down Dexter - if he finds out where he is, of course. That way, the show would fix his otherwise pretty disappointing character arc.

7 Don't Want To See: Vince Masuka

Vince Masuka AKA the pervy forensic spent seasons being a slimeball, but once he found out he is actually a father, he had a wake up call and started to change his ways. Masuka was the funny one, lighting up the mood in an otherwise dark TV show.

There is no way of knowing whether the revival will be funny at all. It's very unlikely, which means we won't get to see Masuka.

6 Want To See: Angel Batista

Angel Batista was one of the most likable characters on Dexter. He used to be Dexter's best friend, so it would be great to see the two reunite.

How would Batista feel about seeing Dexter again? Would he even want anything to do with him? There's only one way to find out: bring him back for the revival.

5 Don't Want To See: Astor Bennet

There is absolutely no need for Astor Bennet to make an appearance in the revival. The girl has suffered enough. Her mother Rita died, which scarred little Astor for life.

Considering how many years have passed since Dexter last saw her, he probably won't look her up. It would be interesting if he did, though, since she could turn into a very distrubed person herself.

4 Want To See: Harry Morgan

Harry Morgan committed suicide all the way back in 2006, but he was a part of the show as Dexter's dark passenger, an internalized voice that helped Dexter navigate difficult life decisions. Dexter could 'get rid' of him when he thought he didn't need him anymore, but that was before all the drama in season 8 went down.

Harry was a part of Dexter's life for decades. It's very unlikely he ever got rid of him since Harry helped him function in the real world.

3 Don't Want To See: Debra Morgan

Debra Morgan, Dexter's adoptive sister, probably won't be returning since she was last seen dead, dropped in the ocean. Debra even developed feelings for her sociopathic brother. She had quite a few toxic relationships in that show, but that one takes the cake.

One of the fan theories suggests that with Debra gone, Dexter lost the last inch of humanity in him, which would definitely turn things up a notch in the future.

2 Want To See: James Doakes

The passionate Sergeant of the Miamo Metro Homicide might have died in the show, but his spirit lives on as the 'Surprise, Motherf*cker' meme. He died in an explosion and was one of Dexter's biggest enemies.

Doakes could be haunting Dexter in the revival since they had quite the chemistry in the original run.

1 Don't Want To See: Lumen Pierce

Julia Stiles' character is also one of those who most probably won't be returning for the revival. Besides Hannah, she is the only person who knows the truth about Dexter. Since he rescued her from torturers, the secret is probably safe with her.

Lumen deserves so much better than to cross paths with the sociopathic Dexter again, even though he probably wouldn't harm her. After all, he is not like Joe Goldberg who kills out of love.
