It was announced this week that Chris Pratt is slated to play Mario in a Super Mario Bros. film. Most of the reactions were confused about the casting, as Pratt is not Italian. The actor, however, paid no mind to the criticism, and seemed stoked about the part.

People Were Not Sold On Pratt Playing Mario

Pratt will star alongside other stars like Charlie Day, who plays Luigi, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Jack Black as Bowser, and Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong. After the movie's cast was announced, there was quite a stir online about who was chosen.

The general consensus from the public was that Pratt, who is Arnold Schwarzenegger's son-in-law, was not the right actor for the role of Mario.

Many people thought that Nintendo should have picked Danny Devito for the part in the animated movie, which will hit US movie theaters next December.

Someone made a joke that his casting was the reason for an Italian flag that was seen at half-mast.

"They sensed it...chris pratt as Mario," someone said.

Somebody else said that he was cast by people who have no idea what they are making a movie about.

"Chris Pratt as Mario was a decision made in a boardroom of Hollywood execs who have never touched a video game and exactly two robots," they tweeted.

Pratt Didn't Notice The Hate Through His Excitement

Even though people were saying he was not fit for the role, Pratt did not seem to notice, posting about his excitement to be cast.

The 42-year-old, who recently became the highest-paid TV actor, uploaded a video where he explains why it is so uncanny that he is going to be Mario.

He explains that he used to play Super Mario Bros. at a laundry mat when he was a kid, and he would have to steal quarters out of a wishing well to be able to play.

"The quarter I stole out of the wishing well to play Super Mario has come true that I get to be the voice of Mario," he exclaims.

"But I clearly stole someone else's wish, so just waiting for that roll of karma dominoes to come crashing down," Pratt continues.

He then debuts his Mario voice, which definitely is going to take a lot more practice.
