Stause began dating Matthew Morrison, the former Glee star, in her early days in Hollywood. The two got engaged but never made it down the aisle. Stause referenced the actor, although not by name, on an episode of Selling Sunset, stating that, "if I ended up with the person I was with at 25, I would want to kill myself." She also shamelessly added that viewers of the series were free to Google who she dated back then to find out who she was referring to, and that this man was a dick to her.

Not too long after her breakup with Morrison, Stause began an on-again, off-again relationship with professional basketball player Graham Bunn, who played for the Heroes Den Bosch team in the Netherlands. Everyone knows about Stause's marriage to Justin Hartley, because the two made headlines all over the internet when Hartley filed for divorce at the end of 2019. Their divorce was also heavily featured on the third season of Selling Sunset, where Stause tearfully told her best friend Mary that Hartley alerted her that he had filed for divorce through a text message. Stause dated professional dancer, Keo Motsepe, after her stint on Dancing With the Stars.
