Ciara and Russell Wilson recently added a new member to their family with the adoption of a puppy. However, the couple’s exciting announcement was quickly overshadowed by criticism from PETA.

Ciara shared the news about their family’s new dog on Mother’s Day weekend. She shared a video to her Instagram page featuring herself and Russell introducing the brown pup for the camera. "Meet.. BRONCO," Ciara wrote in the caption. "The kids call her Bronco Love Brownie:)" The singer also implied the dog was a gift from her husband, writing, “The sweetest surprise. I love you baby @DangeRussWilson.”

Why PETA Is Mad At Ciara & Russell

However, within days of the announcement, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETE) released a scathing statement criticizing the celebrity couple for shopping instead of adopting.

Speaking to TMZ, the organization explained the dog is likely purebred and adopted from a breeder, which they say is where "mother dogs are often locked inside filthy cages and bred over and over until their bodies give out."

"PETA is calling on the couple to Level Up on kindness by adopting a companion for this pup instead of fueling the homeless-animal crisis,” PETA continued, referencing one of Ciara’s songs.

They added, she made a "One, Two Step mistake by killing a shelter dog's chances of finding a home."

So far, neither Ciara nor Russell have commented on the organization’s criticism of their new dog.

The couple’s new pet may have been spurred by their recent move. Last month, the news broke that Ciara and Russell had bought a $25 million mansion in Colorado after listing their Washington estates.

The decision to move cross-country came after Russell signed to the Broncos after a long run with the Seattle Seahawks.

The couple’s new property features 20,000 square feet of living space and sits on 5.34 acres – a good fit for their three children. It comes with 12 bathrooms and 4 bedrooms as well as a 9-car garage, home theatre, indoor pool, game room, and indoor basketball court.

Simultaneously, Russell and Ciara listed their Bellevue, Washington estate for $28 million. They originally bought it for $6.7 million in 2015, representing an impressive 318% increase in value. The home is smaller than the current one they bought, with 11,000 square feet of living space. Its features including 6 bedrooms, a home gym, dance studio, and basketball court.

The couple also owned the neighbouring land, which they’ve offered to sell in conjunction with the Bellevue estate for $36 million total.
