The JonBenét Ramsey murder has been the subject of much debate, seemingly going unsolved for many years. But in 2019, suspected sex offender Gary Oliva reportedly confessed.

Even though the case turned cold and DNA evidence never tied any of the primary suspects to six-year-old JonBenét Ramsey's murder, convicted sex offender Gary Oliva recently confessed to the crime. Formal charges haven't been brought up, despite Oliva sending letters to high school classmate Michael Vail which confirmed the grim truth, but it's only a matter of time.

As DailyMailTV reports, Vail shared the letters that contained Oliva's confession and sentimental odes to the little girl with the outlet. Though, the most damning piece of evidence came in the form of a phone call.

According to Vail, Oliva called him on the night of December 26, 1996, and told him that he hurt a little girl. Oliva also mentioned that he was in the Boulder, Colorado area at the time. Ramsey was found dead in her Colorado home that same day.

Authorities in Boulder have investigated the evidence provided by Vail and told DailyMail they looked into Oliva's potential involvement in the case. Surprisingly though, Boulder Police Spokesperson Laurie Ogden would not comment on the current status of the case.

Did Gary Oliva Kill JonBenét Ramsey?

While Ogden's statement is standard for ongoing investigations, Boulder Police are likely looking into the matter if something did come up. Had nothing suspicious surfaced, they would've ruled out Oliva's involvement, but that's not the situation here.

The pertinent aspect of Oliva being involved is that he's up for parole this year. An arrest affidavit obtained by DailyMailTV reveals Oliva's hearing date is scheduled for July 2020, and the convicted sex offender could be out as early as October. The mandatory release date, however, is slated for Oct. 2025.

Odds are Oliva won't receive an early release, but authorities shouldn't leave that up to chance. He's been convicted of several other crimes, including threats against his very own mother's life, which speak to his character. Oliva's high-school friend Michael Vail even stated he believes "Gary is a danger to everyone." during his conversation with DailyMailTV.

Will The Murder Case Ever Be Solved?

What's worrisome is Gary Oliva could be one of the men responsible for killing JonBenét Ramsey, and he's in a prime position to be released without facing charges for the heinous crime. Boulder P.D. can avoid such a terrible situation from happening by intervening, but will they?

If they don't, the outrage from community members who believe Oliva is responsible could reach a boiling point. JonBenét's father John would presumably have the most to say if he too believes the allegations, although he's not the only one.

The rest of Ramsey's family are presumably following the case closely, too. They've remained rather silent in recent years, but with a chance to bring JonBenét's killer to justice at stake, they'll make a statement sooner or later.

Will Convicted Sex-Offender Gary Oliva Be Released In 2020?

For now, interested parties need to wait on the Boulder Police Department to make an official statement. They're unable to comment on ongoing investigations, but for a subject that's bound to attract quite a bit of attention, Boulder Police will have to say something eventually.

One possible scenario will have the department announce that Oliva is being released upon completion of his current sentence. That doesn't seem likely considering Oliva's track record for dangerous behavior, but it's not entirely out of the question.

The second and most probable conclusion is that formal charges will be raised in the coming months, because if Boulder Police fail to do that, Oliva will be a free man who may flee or commit more crimes. Oliva's previous confession points to him accepting punishment for his crimes, but when it comes to habitual criminals, their words can't be taken at face value.

Whatever happens, the JonBenét Ramsey case is bound to draw much attention as Oliva's parole date gets closer. The question is, will Gary Oliva be released in 2020? Or will the pedophile finally be named as the young girl's killer?
