Cop Helps Homeless Man Get A Job With A Clean Shave In A Parking Lot

A Tallahassee Police Department Police Officer in Florida won’t be getting a commendation for helping out a fellow citizen, but he may well deserve one. Officer Tony Carlson stopped this week to help a homeless man, named Phil, shave his beard outside a local gas station.

Carlson’s good deed, which he didn’t expect to be noticed, was seen by a woman who was sitting in her car at the gas station. After watching the interaction, she went inside the station and asked the officer why he had helped the man shave and if he would like a drink.

#MustSee #MorePureAwesomeness We thought the picture was awesome, well here’s THE VIDEO of Officer Carlson helping one of our citizens. #TPD #Tallahassee THE STORY AS TOLD BY THE CITIZEN SUBMITTING THE INFORMATION: “My daughter just sent me this picture and called to tell me the story, I had to share....she went to the gas station and saw this officer shaving a homeless man's beard. A minute later the officer went into the store and Hannah walked in after him and saw him cleaning himself up because he was hot and sweaty. She offered to buy him a drink and got talking. Apparently the officer was at McDonald's next door and this gentleman went in looking for a job. He was told they wouldn't hire him unless he shaved his beard. So the officer went and got some clippers and shaved the man's beard so he could go back and get a job! I am so proud to live in a community where our deputies and officers are such wonderful people. Good job Tallahassee Police Department!!! ❤”

Carlson said that the homeless man had been told by McDonald’s staff that he would not be allowed to start working at the restaurant until he got rid of his beard. Having overheard the conversation, the officer took some clippers and offered to shave the man’s beard in the parking lot. Afterward, the man returned to the fast food restaurant to inquire about the job.

The woman was so moved by the officer’s show of kindness that she sent the video to Carlon’s superiors at the Tallahassee Police Department, hoping they’d honor the officer for his good deed. “I am so proud to live in a community where our deputies and officers are such wonderful people,” said the woman. “Good job Tallahassee Police Department!”

In a Facebook post, Carlson said, "He asked me if I knew anything about fixing a razor because his was broken and if I could look at it. It was missing a screw so I tightened up the other one to the point where it actually worked."

Officer Carlson talks about how he met Phil, a local homeless man, and how he helped Phil with shaving his beard so he could apply for a job. The whole story told by Officer Carlson who says he was just doing his job by helping others. #makingadifference #beKind #helpingothers

Since Phil, not having a mirror, was struggling with his shave, Carlson offered to help. "He was excited that there was a chance he was going to get this job if he did this simple thing," Carlson said.

Carlson followed his post up with an update about Phil’s job interview. “He told me he had talked to the manager at McDonald's and he was set to get a job - but he still needed to get his ID and social security card," Carlson wrote. "I then told Phil I had good news about that and told him I had been contacted by Senator Marco Rubio's office here in town."

The senator's staff had seen the story and provided Phil with the documents needed to request an ID and social security card. "Phil was super-excited and assured me he would be ready for Thursday," Carlson said.
