One of the most talked-about things about the new Scream or Scream 5 is ex-couple David Arquette and Courteney Cox's reunion. The last time they worked together in Scream 4, they were still married. Although their marriage didn't have "a dramatic ending," some fans thought it'd be weird after all that's been said about the Never Been Kissed actor's behavior during the marriage.

Following their split, there were reports about Arquette being "too much of a horndog" that led to an awkward incident with the Friends star and their teenage daughter Coco at Disney World... Have they finally put those issues aside? Here's what Arquette has said about working with Cox again.

Where Did Courteney Cox And David Arquette Meet?

The two first met in 1996 while they were shooting the first Scream movie. At that time, Cox was already a big sitcom star while Arquette was only known for his minor role in the flop film, Buffy the Vampire Slayer. However, that didn't stop the actor from being cocky around his future wife. Lucky for him, she found it charming. "We met at a pre-party before we started filming Scream," the actor said of their meet-cute. "I was being a little cocky and Courteney was like, 'Ah, I've heard of you,' and we just kept flirting for a while. She's just so gorgeous and she jokes around so much."

Two years later, Arquette proposed to Cox. In 1999, they tied the knot in a grand ceremony in San Francisco, California. They had 250 guests including the Friends cast and Nicholas Cage who was married to Arquette's sister Patricia. In 2004, they welcomed their only child, Coco. For some years, the two seemed like the perfect couple. Little did the public know, the two had been dealing with several problems behind closed doors.

Why Did Courteney Cox And David Arquette Divorce?

In 2010, the pair announced that they were separating. Arquette soon spilled the reason to Howard Stern. Later admitting to sharing too much information, the actor revealed that he was "begging" Cox to take him back and that she felt like she was "mothering" him in the marriage. He said that Cox told him: "I don’t want to be your mother anymore." He explained that she just got tired of dealing with him. "She tries to take on everybody's problems," he clarified. "She's the mother to everyone. That's why she doesn't want to be the mother to me anymore."

The next year, they had a joint interview with Stern where Cox discussed Arquette's sexual issues. "Whenever I would need consoling from David, he could not literally put his arm around me for one second without completely getting a b----," she said. She also shared the story of when Arquette wanted to have intercourse while they were at Disney World but she wasn't in the mood. The actor took it as her not being attracted to him anymore while the actress said it's just that she "had just woken up."

They went on to cite their different lifestyles as the main reason for their split. "There are a lot of things that David likes to do completely the opposite things I do," Cox added. "I don't want to inhibit him in his life. He really is a very gregarious guy, he's very outgoing. I'm much more of an introvert."

Inside Courteney Cox And David Arquette's Reunion On 'Scream 5'

In an interview with Us Weekly, Arquette said working together with Cox after their divorce was a "comfortable" yet "cathartic experience." But he clarified that it wasn't at all hard acting opposite his ex-wife. "It’s great when you know people really well and you get to act opposite them," he said. "There’s just little stuff about them in general as people, so it makes it really comfortable. And, you know, they say, like, 80 percent of communication is nonverbal. So, the more you know someone, obviously, you’re gonna have advantages."

In early January 2022, Cox revealed that Arquette "got very emotional while he was filming" their first scene together on Scream. The actor then said it was a "cathartic experience," sharing a long-running movie, as well as a 17-year-old daughter with Cox. "It’s been 25 years of our lives," he said of their journey together. "We’ve grown up together. We have a child together." Their daughter, however, isn't a big fan of the slasher film. "We tried to watch one of the original Scream [movies] together,” said the actor. "She was like, ‘I just can’t.’ [But] she’s excited for this one."
