Over the last couple of decades, people have found several new ways to rise to fame, including becoming a “reality” star or social media influencer. Even though there are so many new ways to become a star, it somehow feels like the vast majority of famous people are pretty cookie-cutter these days. Sure, some stars seem like they would be a lot of fun to hang out with. However, if you flip between the late-night talk shows on any given night, you are bound to notice that all of the celebrities all tell the same kind of stories and they seem really similar overall.

Unlike most of today’s celebrities, Craig Ferguson comes across as a completely unique person. With that in mind, it makes a lot of sense that his career has gone in some unique directions as well. Of course, that begs a very obvious question, is Craig Ferguson actually happy about where his career has gone?

One Of The Best

From 2005 until 2014, Craig Ferguson hosted The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson. Even though The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson never was a ratings behemoth, it can easily be argued that Ferguson is among the best talk show hosts of all time. Of course, it seems abundantly clear that Ferguson would beg to differ considering how much he mocked his own talk show during his tenure.

There are several reasons why Craig Ferguson deserves to be considered among the best talk show hosts of all time. For example, it is nearly impossible to not laugh while watching a compilation of all the times that Ferguson cracked himself up while hosting his show. On top of that, Ferguson had the amazing ability to engage his guests in a way that more often than not would result in them being more genuine on his show than any others. Finally, on multiple occasions, he used his monologue to say something that mattered to his audience including the time Ferguson stuck up for Britney Spears even as all of his peers took endless potshots at her. For all of those reasons, a lot of Ferguson’s fans are sad he gave up his talk show but what really matters is how Craig feels about his career trajectory.

Reflecting On His Main Gig

Since January 2021, Craig Ferguson’s main gig has been as the host of ABC’s game show The Hustler. For anyone who hasn’t seen the show yet, each episode of The Hustler features five contestants working together to build up a prize pool by answering questions. However, the twist is that one of those contestants who is designated the hustler is given all of the answers to the question beforehand. If the other contestants can’t figure out who the contestant who was fed the answers is, the hustler wins all of the money. If the hustler is outed, the two regular contestants who survive the game take home the cash.

Prior to The Hustler’s television debut, there was no way to know if the show would succeed. Ultimately, it is very clear that ABC is happy with the show. After all, The Hustler was renewed for a second season which was put into production so quickly that it began airing just over five months after the first season debuted. Putting aside The Hustler’s popularity, the real question is whether or not Craig Ferguson enjoys hosting the show.

In June 2021, Craig Ferguson talked to an abc7chicago.com reporter about The Hustler returning for a second season. During that conversation, Ferguson claimed to love hosting The Hustler. "The thing I enjoy the most about this show is that I don't really host it, I play it along with everyone else. It's like being the dealer, not a drugs dealer, but a dealer at a cards game or something. Because I don't' know who 'The Hustler' is, I just play it, and it's kind of a dream job for me to be honest."

Is He Playing The Game?

When the vast majority of notable movies and TV shows are released, all of the famous people involved with it make the rounds promoting the project. Since the entire purpose of taking part in those interviews is promotion, stars almost always sing the praises of their latest project during contemporary interviews. In fact, Jamie Foxx once admitted that he knew one of his movies sucked and outright lied about that during interviews at the time.

Given that hosting The Hustler is Craig Ferguson's main source of revenue at the moment, some people may presume that his comments about enjoying being a part of the show can’t be trusted. However, since Ferguson rose to fame, he has made being honest with his fans a big part of his persona. On top of that, Ferguson has proven time and time again that he is willing to vacate a high-paying job if he isn’t happy with it. For example, Ferguson made it abundantly clear that he was the one who decided to end his late-night talk show. On top of that, after he signed a deal to host a Sirius XM radio show, Ferguson abruptly announced he was exiting the job even though he had a year to go on his contract. With that in mind, it is extremely easy to believe that Ferguson really is happy with his current career.
