Plenty of viewers loved watching Craig Ferguson on 'The Late Late Show,' but there's more to the talk show host personality than just humor.

Though he's no longer working for CBS, fans recall Craig's time as a late-night host fondly, and they suggest that society needs more people like Ferguson at the helm of late-night (and all other) TV programming.

Craig Ferguson Earned Kudos For Being A Good Human

When Britney Spears' conservatorship drama reentered the spotlight recently, fans unearthed Craig's 2007 rant about supporting rather than slandering celebs in need.

Though he was specifically talking about Britney in that case -- and went against CBS' wishes to defend her -- fans say that's exactly the kind of talk show host/comedian that society needs.

Sure, the primary topic of discussion was Britney. But the rest of Craig's rant touched on the way he feels about celebrity and fame, and how the wellbeing of fellow humans is always the most important thing.

Other Talk Show Hosts Seem To Enjoy Dragging People Down

Fans may have put Craig on a bit too much of a pedestal because he's definitely not perfect. But as one Redditor summed up, "He was truly the most human and underrated late night host."

Sure, some fans admired Craig for his effortless ability to flirt (even with people who may not have appreciated his come-ons), but most agreed that he really seemed to care about people, even if he did do some things wrong.

And especially in 2007, when he spoke up about Britney and other troubled celebs, Craig was really putting his own neck on the line, and not just in terms of risking his job with CBS.

As some fans recall, Craig experienced his own struggles with substances and mental health, and in those days, it wasn't always a welcome topic to discuss on TV, let alone in terms of personal experiences.

Craig could have ruined his current job and his entire career, but he took that chance.

Who Could Be The Next Craig Ferguson?

Fans still feel a bit adrift, and have for a few years, since Craig left his late-night gig. Another commenter summarized what most fans feel: "Never a dull moment, he could improvise like none other and he could also be serious in a very deep, emotional and personal way."

That's precisely what fans are hoping for in the next iteration of talk show host. Someone who doesn't belittle their workers or their guests, as Ellen has been accused of, and definitely not someone who's been accused of inappropriate behavior like some daytime news hosts.

Sadly, it seems tough to find someone who's as much of a gem as Craig, but fans can keep hoping.
