19 Creepy Images Captured By Drones

In recent years, the use of drones has become increasingly popular. This must be why according to Goldman Sachs, the drone market is forecasted to be worth $100 billion by the year 2020.

There are some who use it for fun. On the other hand, there are also those who choose to use it for work. Overall, Goldman Sachs estimates that the consumer market for drones from 2016 to 2020 is worth around $17 billion. Meanwhile, drones have also been involved in several military operations over the past few years. It’s no wonder that estimates indicate that the military alone would account for $70 billion of the drone market from 2016 to 2020. On the other hand, the commercial and civil market is expected to account for around $13 billion of the drone industry during the same time period.

As you can see, the drone has sparked a great deal of interest across several markets. Hence, it’s not uncommon to see drone footage on the internet nowadays. Over the years, however, there are drones that have also managed to capture some really cringey photos from overhead. Let’s check some of them out:

19 Forgotten Chernobyl

Today, Pripyat in Ukraine remains a ghost town since it is located inside the Chernobyl exclusion zone. Back in 1986, a mass evacuation was ordered after the meltdown of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.

And today, the whole area continues to remain eerie and abandoned due to high levels of radiation that are still present.

18 Ship graveyard

YouTube member Chad Aaronson had uploaded this footage of the abandoned Arthur Kill Ship Graveyard in Staten Island, New York. His footage was also shot via “drone view.”

True to its name, the area revealed several ships which have been left and forgotten over the years. It is unknown if there are any plans to salvage them.

17 Shipwreck

According to the entry on Shutter Stock, this drone footage shows the shipwreck of the Evangelia that now remains stranded on the Black Sea coast in Romania.

From the photo, you may notice the “advanced structural damage of the upper deck and entire vessel.” From the looks of it, it seems the Evangelia would just be left to deteriorate here for years.

16 Ghost of the black-eyed girl

According to the Laredo Paranormal Research Society, it was a quadcopter drone that managed to capture this eerie footage of black-eyed girl roaming around the forest in Cannock Chase.

Several reports indicate that this ghostly apparition has been terrifying locals in the area for some time now. According to a report from Daily Mail, it is believed that the homicide of a seven-year-old girl back in 1967 is connected to this occurrence.

15 Ghostly knight

In 2018, a camera enthusiast by the name of Thomas Arnold decided to take his drone and fly it around the Berkeley Castle. As he went over the footage, he believed his drone managed to capture the apparition of a ghostly knight.

During an interview with Gloucestershire Live, Arnold explained, “Where the footage was shot, the drone lost contact with the control, which was with me. I pressed the 'return to home' key, but it wasn't until I got home that we noticed what I would describe as an apparition going through the courtyard.”

14 Deserted ghost town

This drone footage uploaded on Shutter Stock shows an aerial view of the city of Craco in Southern Italy. According to Atlas Obscura, residents of the city were forced to abandon their home for good after a landslide in 1991.

Since then, it has been largely uninhabited. However, the city has been used as a movie set from time to time.

13 Rooftop sunbather

Indeed, this drone footage serves as a reminder that you can’t really expect utmost privacy from a rooftop, especially when drones are becoming increasingly popular. At one point, a drone ended up capturing a topless sunbather who was enjoying some private time at the top of an apartment building.

Upon seeing a drone, she tried to retaliate with a broom.

12 The cornfield clown

As far as film history goes, there have been a number of horror films featuring scary clowns over the years. There’s “Killer Klowns from Outer Space,” “Clownhouse,” “100 Tears,” “All Hallows’ Eve,” “The Clown Murders” and “IT” to name a few.

And so, when this drone footage of a clown in the middle of the cornfield emerged, people were quite freaked out.

11 A shark underneath surfers

Amazingly, it seems that the surfers were not aware that a shark was already passing underneath them. Australian Blair Ranford who posted the video told Daily Mail Australia, “He had never even seen it. He was amazed when he saw the footage.”

Meanwhile, it is also believed that the surfers were never in actual danger since the shark showed “no interest in the surfer outside of a little curiosity.”

10 Nepal earthquake aftermath

Back in 2015, one amateur drone footage captured the devastation suffered by the Nepalese city of Kathmandu after experiencing a magnitude 7.8 earthquake. According to a report from BBC, casualties were estimated to be more than 7,000.

In the aftermath of the quake, locals can be seen desperately trying to locate their loved ones underneath the rubble.

9 Tsunami devastation in Indonesia

According to the website Commercial Drone Professional, this drone footage was captured in 2018 following an earthquake and a subsequent tsunami in the city of Palu in Indonesia. Experts had estimated the death toll to be more than 1,200.

There was also a widespread fear that many had been trapped under fallen debris.

8 Massive flooding in Louisiana

In 2016, Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards was forced to declare a state of emergency after the city became inundated by floodwater.

According to a report from The Advocate, the historic flood occurred after a slow-moving system ended up dumping more than 20 inches of rain in a span of three days.

7 Hurricane Harvey devastation

Back in 2017, a drone had managed to capture the trail of devastation left by Hurricane Harvey in Texas. According to World Vision, Hurricane Harvey was classified into a category 4 hurricane.

The damage it left was estimated to cost around $125 billion. In the wake of the natural disaster, Texas Governor Greg Abbott told “Good Morning America,” “This is going to be a massive, massive cleanup process.”

6 Hawaii volcano eruption

This terrifying drone footage was shot over Mount Kilauea in Hawaii as it erupted and spewed lava over a residential area. According to the website Drone DJ, the eruption triggered a massive evacuation of Leilani estates where as many as 1,500 are estimated to live.

As you can see from the photo, it was quite unsafe to remain in the area after the lava started flowing down.

5 Devastating Camp Fire

According to a report from NBC Bay Area, a drone has captured dramatic footage of the devastation caused by the deadly Camp Fire in Butte County, Northern California. The fire had reportedly wiped out several structures and homes in the area.

Even worse, dozens of people were believed to be dead in the wake of the fire.

4 Notre Dame fire

The massive structure fire that blazed through Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Paris earlier this year was captured by this drone footage. In the immediate aftermath of the tragedy, the cause of the fire could not be determined.

According to a report from the BBC, the fire had started around 18:30H and quickly spread to the roof of the cathedral.

3 California wildfires

According to an October 2017 YouTube upload from The Young Observer, “More than a dozen fast-moving wildfires tearing through California's wine country have killed at least 10 people, destroying hundreds of homes, authorities said Monday.

Fanned by winds of over 50 miles (80 kilometers) an hour, the blazes have forced more than 20,000 people to evacuate in the country's heaviest populated state since they began Sunday night.”

2 Alien visitor

For quite some time now, there has been some widespread belief that aliens exist and that they have somehow made their way into our Earth. This drone footage of an alien creature appearing in the forest seems to confirm that.

However, it is unclear whether the appearance was just caused by someone wearing a costume.

Even today, it is unclear where this drone footage was taken. However, based on the surroundings, it seems that the men have made their way inside a confined area in the middle of a dense forest.

Meanwhile, the shape and form of the structure itself seem to indicate that was once utilized for a specific purpose.
