When we think of a famous late night show host, we immediately think of David Letterman. He hosted his show from 1993 until his last episode in 2015. David Letterman shared that he wants to have a close friendship with his son.

According to People, David Letterman was interviewed by Sunday Today and that said that while parenting advice often says that you shouldn't want to be pals with your children, he doesn't believe in that. He said, Look at me — how much longer am I going to be around? I want to be the best friend. But he’s not keen on me being the best friend."

David Letterman had some kind words about Harry, and every time he's interviewed about him, David sounds like a caring father who just wants to spend time with his family. He said, “The most secure I ever feel is when I’m around my son."

David also said that while he does feel nostalgic when looking back on his late-night show, it's great that he's able to hang out with Harry more: "The best part is that I get to do stuff with my son."

While Harry is 18 years old now, The Daily Mail painted a sweet picture of David, Harry, and Regina, reporting that the family went to St Barts in 2007 and Harry, who was young at the time, sat on David's shoulders during the trip.

It makes sense that David Letterman would say that since he stopped hosting his late-night show in 2015, he has been able to spend more time with his son Harry. Hosting a late-night show for several decades must be very time-consuming and demanding, and while it seems like the family always went on vacations, it sounds like David Letterman is happy about getting quality time now.

Inside David Letterman's Family Life

David Letterman and Regina Lasko began seeing each other in 1986 and they have a child together, Harry Joseph. According to Heavy.com, despite being a couple for many decades, they tied the knot in 2009.

David Letterman talked about that on his show and said, “I had avoided getting married pretty good [sic] for, like, 23 years, and … honestly, whether this happened or not, I secretly felt that men who were married admired me, like I was the last of the real gunslingers — you know what I’m saying?”

Sadly, David Letterman and Regina Lasko have. had trouble in their marriage as fans learned that David had affairs with staff members. According to Your Tango, David addressed that and said, “I think if you’re going to have a flow chart of the responsibility for this circumstance, this sex scandal, my name is at the top. I’m not sure what it means, but I’m taking responsibility for it, trying to atone for it.”

David Letterman also said that he cheated with Stephanie Birkitt, his assistant. While it seems that David and his son Harry do get along well and they have been a close family, David does, unfortunately, have to tell his son about the affairs at some point, which will definitely be a difficult conversation to have.

People reported that in Jason Zinoman's book, called Letterman: The Giant of Late Night, David shared that he knew that in the future, he would sit down with his son Harry and tell him what happened: “He will [know about it] one day. We’ll have to have a conversation about it. But not yet.”

David Letterman was also fearful that this meant that he would lose his family.

In an interview with CNN from several years ago, David Letterman shared that he and Harry shared a fun memory. He said that he and Harry have a passion for skiing and when they asked Regina if she wanted to join them, she asked if the snow was slippery and they all had a good laugh about it.
