Leo Tolstoy once wrote, "All happy families are alike; each unhappy family is unhappy in its own way" and that definitely applies to the popular sitcom Malcolm In The Middle. Many of people saw themselves in Frankie Muniz's character Malcolm who doesn't feel like he fits in with his siblings and parents. He loves his family but he has a higher IQ than them, and like everyone, he just wants to belong. Of course, fans could also relate to Malcolm's younger brother Dewey, who is the fourth kid... that is, before Jamie is born.

We want to know where the Malcolm In The Middle cast is now, including star Justin Berfield. Many fans are curious about Erik Per Sullivan, who became famous for playing the role of Dewey, because he hasn't been in the spotlight for several years.

Where Is Erik Today?

Frankie Muniz's high net worth makes sense given his years on the show and the movies that he has starred in. But what has Erik Per Sullivan been doing since the show went off the air?

Erik Per Sullivan decided to quit acting, and he hasn't had any recent roles. His last part was in the movie Twelve, according to Cinemablend.com.

According to Erik's IMDb page, he began his career playing Fuzzy in the 1999 movie The Cider House Rules. He was the voice of Sheldon in Finding Nemo and played Spike in 2004's Christmas With The Kranks before joining the cast of Malcolm In The Middle.

After starring on the show as Dewey from 2000 to 2006, he played The Little Boy in a short film called Once Not Far From Home and played Timmy in the 2010 movie Twelve.

No one seems to be sure why Erik Per Sullivan decided to walk away from acting. Perhaps he was interested in Hollywood as a child, but after starring for several years on a popular sitcom, decided that the limelight just wasn't for him.

In 2009, Frankie Muniz tweeted that he was in touch with Erik Per Sullivan again and that they hadn't spoken in several years. He mentioned that Erik was attending USC.

Dewey On 'Malcolm In The Middle'

While fans wonder why Erik Per Sullivan seems to have totally disappeared from the spotlight, they do have strong opinions on his Malcolm In The Middle character.

Some fans discussed Dewey on Reddit, with one fan writing, "Dewey is one of my favorite characters on the show. And on the last three seasons, in my opinion, he showed to be smarter than Malcolm, and even more mature that Malcolm and Reese sometimes. But they would always ignore him, or diminished everything he did."

Another fan responded with how much they love this character: "Yeah Dewey is the family MVP. He comes out the best adjusted and will (hopefully) have done very well in life. Technically, I believe that Reese, Malcolm, and Dewey are all middle children. Not the baby, not the adult."

Many Malcolm In The Middle fans have wondered where Erik Per Sullivan went. One asked in a Reddit thread why he hasn't attended reunions with the rest of the cast, and a fan responded that the actor who played Dewey seems to want to stay private. The fan wrote, "he doesn't join reunions because he’s been out of the public eye. Frankie Muniz has said he’s contacted him and “received his answer” about a new season, so it’s likely if it did ever get renewed for one reunion season there’d be no Dewey :("

Jane Kaczmarek, who played Lois on the sitcom, made a speech about Bryan Cranston when he received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. She shared that Bryan and Erik were super close and that Bryan really took Erik under his wing.

Jane said, "Some of my fondest memories are of Bryan taking care of those boys, the kids who played our naughty children." Jane explained that he gave them advice and "encouraged them" and that Bryan invited Erik Per Sullivan to spend the weekends with his family. He said that Erik and his mom lived in Oakwood apartments while shooting the show and it was nice for Erik to "spend some normal time with a normal family." This also allowed Erik's mom to go to Boston to see her husband.

It definitely sound like Erik was part of the family. Erik was there for many Halloweens and Jane said Bryan would make "his extra special, much beloved, very thin buttermilk pancakes that no one really liked except Bryan."
