Blake Lively And Ryan Reynolds Don’t Know Baby Number Four's Gender

In November, Ryan revealed that he and his wife don’t know the sex of their baby on the way, and don’t plan to find out until they’re born. In fact, he said they did this with all of Blake’s pregnancy.

“I don’t know. We never find out ‘til (the baby is born),” he said on TODAY.

Ryan Reynolds And Blake Lively Would Prefer To Have Another Girl

However, Ryan also expressed a preference for which gender he’s hoping for. With three daughters already, many fans assume the couple are hoping to finally add a boy to their family. But Ryan admitted a girl would be easier.

“I know girls so I’m sort of kind of hoping that, but I’m ready for whatever happens,” he said.

The actor further revealed that he only had brothers growing up, and knows how rough they can be. With a laugh, Ryan explained, "(I come from) all brothers, which is why I speak from experience. I love my well-being and my home.” He added, “I was the youngest of four and we were just arsonists and firemen."

This isn’t the first time Ryan has expressed a preference for having girls over boys.

I was the youngest of four boys, so I find doors to be a privilege,” he said in a SiiriusXM interview in 2021. “For the most part I was thrown through walls. I was a moving target, I was emergency harvestable organs. You name it, I was that, as the youngest of four large, strapping boys. I include my dad, because he was almost like a child at times.

Ryan added, “Having girls, now I don’t know anything else. Our last-born daughter, Betty, I was worried. We didn’t know what the sex was going to be. I was like, ‘If I have a boy, what is that going to be like?’”

He echoed similar sentiments in an interview with Live with Kelly and Ryan. “I’m 100 percent a girl dad. I love it. I absolutely love it. I didn’t expect to be a girl dad. I didn’t expect to be a dad. I didn’t expect to be married. It’s all a part of the Hollywood arrangementship,” he said.

“I’m the youngest of four boys,” Ryan continued. “I did live in fear that it was going to be boys. The only way you could leave a room was through a perfectly good wall. I was like, ‘Why does it have to be like this?’”

He added, “If I had boys, I’d probably pay for nothing but padded rooms.”

Blake Lively And Ryan Reynolds Might Not Be Done With Baby-Making

Blake and Ryan have been vocal about their desire to have a large family. While four kids is already a lot, it may indicate the couple are open to expanding their family further, regardless if they welcome a boy this time or not.

Shortly after they tied the knot, Blake revealed to Allure that she hoped for many kids. "I've always wanted a big family. Oh I'd love 30 [children] if I could," Blake said.

Two years later, in 2014, the actress again commented on wanting a big family. "I gotta get started [having kids.] If I could spit out a litter of kids, I would,” she told Marie Claire.

Another sign that the couple may be open to more kids is that Ryan recently said he was taking a step back from his career to focus more time on his young family. He announced his break from acting in October 2021 after he finished filming the holiday movie Spirited. He later opened up about the reason behind his decision months later in December.

"The biggest thing for me, and I know you have kids as well, is that I don't want to miss this time with my kids,” Ryan explained.

"I want my kids to have a pretty normal schedule. For many years when my wife Blake would shoot a film, I would not shoot a film and I would be with the kids and vice versa,” Ryan continued. “So we would sort of trade off. We never really worked at the same time. But always we were away. So the kids were away too."

However, now that their children are older, Ryan admits it’s harder to maintain that lifestyle. And it’s not in the best interest of their kids.

"Now that they're in school, they have a somewhat normal schedule,” he added. “I think it's totally important for their development and I really enjoy being a present dad. I love taking them to school in the morning, I love picking them up. I love that I have the hours in between to focus on the things that I'm really passionate about like MNTN and Maximum Effort.”

So, it appears that having a boy isn’t a priority for Blake and Ryan. But given their past comments, they may not be done having kids, even though baby no. 4 isn’t even here yet.
