Back in 2015, Nina Dobrev announced that she is leaving The Vampire Diaries, and here's what she shared with her followers:

"I always knew I wanted Elena's story to be a six-season adventure, and within those six years I got the journey of a lifetime. I was a human, a vampire, a doppelganger, a crazy immortal, a doppelganger pretending to be human, a human pretending to be a doppelganger. I got kidnapped, killed, resurrected, tortured, cursed, body-snatched, was dead and undead, and there's still so much more to come before the season finale."

5 She Didn't Always Get Along With The Cast

It's definitely not so uncommon for cast members to not get along — after all, not everyone can be close from the get-go. Nina Dobrev opened up about the fact that she didn't like co-star Paul Wesley in the beginning even though the two played love interests on the show. "Paul and I didn't get along at the beginning of the show. I respected Paul Wesley, I didn't like Paul Wesley. We really just didn’t get along the first maybe five months of shooting. I remember everyone would walk up to me after the show aired and they'd be like, 'Are you and Paul dating in real life?' Because everyone thought that we had such good chemistry. We despised each other so much, that it read as love."

4 But She Did Admit That Shooting The Show Was Fun

Nina Dobrev was a main cast member in the first six seasons of the show which definitely means she shot a lot with the cast and crew. Looking back the actress admits that being on set was always a real fun experience. Here's what Dobrev said:

"It was crazy schedule-wise shooting both of the roles, having to do Elena and Katherine, and shooting scenes with myself at times. It was a wild learning experience but really fun too because I got to play two wildly different characters."

3 And She Enjoyed Playing More Than One Character

As fans know, Nina Dobrev played not only Elena Gilbert on the show — but also Katherine Pierce and Amara. According to the actress, playing multiple characters was a real perk of the show and something she enjoyed very much, Here's what Dobrev revealed:

"I was a self-proclaimed good girl when I got the show, and then slowly became more evil as I embodied Katherine. I learned a lot from her. I remember carrying around two separate scripts — one for each character — because I had to break down what Elena was going through in that episode and what her intentions were, and then having a separate script for what Katherine wanted out of every scene and circumstance."

2 Dobrev Dated One Of Her Co-Stars And Fans Suspected Their Breakup Was The Reason She Left The Show

Nina Dobrev and her former co-star Ian Somerhalder who portrayed Damon Salvatore on the show sated from March 2010 until April 2013. After that, they worked for two more years on the show before Nina said goodbye to The Vampire Diaries. Fans were quick to conclude that Somerhalder was perhaps the reason Dobrev quit the show because let's be real — who likes working with their ex. However, Dobrev revealed that she is actually good friend with both, Ian Somerhalder and his wife, actress Nikki Reed, meaning that her ex wasn't the reason she quit the show. Here's what Dobrev said about her ex and the Twilight actress:

"Why can't everyone be friends? I think they have a beautiful baby, and they are happy and so am I. What's bad about that? I don't see any problem with that."

1 Lastly, The Actress Hasn't Had Much Sucess In The Industry Since

While Nina Dobrev has been a part of multiple projects since saying goodbye to The Vampire Diaries, it kind of seems as if she peaked as Elena Gilbert on the show. Of course, Nina Dobrev hasn't said anything about this yet — and with 32 years she is still young so this can change — but not many people can even think of what she has been in after the show.
