The current season of The Real Housewives of Orange County echoes the real-life problems that many people have been facing in 2020, as the past few episodes have focused on the cast members coping with the COVID-19 pandemic.

Braunwyn Windham-Burke's sober journey is one storyline that season 15 is focusing on, along with new cast member Elizabeth Vargas and her divorce.

Emily Simpson has been on RHOC for the past few years and the reality star has a net worth of $800,000. Emily is married to Shane and they have three kids. But the couple's love story hasn't always been easy. Let's take a look at whether Emily Simpson has a happy marriage.

Where Their Marriage Stands Now

Sometimes a couple will appear on a reality show and then split up, as the cracks in their marriage become too obvious. That happened with Meghan King and Jim Edmonds who had a tough divorce.

Fans of RHOC can recall that in the 14th season of the show, Shane and Emily Simpson seemed to be experiencing some trouble. Shane was studying for the bar exam and as a result, wasn't home very often. When he was home, the couple wasn't talking very much, and when they were, the discussions would usually turn into arguments. It was very tense and it didn't seem like they were happy.

Today, Shane and Emily are much happier, and after Emily got hip surgery, things shifted in a more positive direction.

According to Bravo TV, Emily explained how she was feeling in the season 15 episode of the reality series. She said, "I think 11 years [of marriage] is huge because we probably hit rock bottom last year. I think it's my fault because I didn't recognize that he's a great dad and a great husband. And then coming out of surgery I felt like I had a whole new life — and he was there with me to share that and move forward."

Emily posted a nice photo of her and Shane in November 2019 and wrote a heartfelt caption about being married. She said, "Marriage is a lot of ups and downs, twists and turns. Sometimes it’s bliss." She continued about the "hard work" of this kind of long-term relationship and she said that "family comes first."

Emily concluded her post with words that seem to prove that her marriage is good again: she said, "So here we are... 12 years married, just mom and dad raising five incredibly happy, kind, smart and loving kids. Together for always."

Past Problems

In 2019, Emily shared on Watch What Happens Live that she understands why fans of the show think that Shane has been mean to her, since that's what the cameras picked up. She explained that there was "another side" to Shane that was much better.

According to Distractify.com, Emily said, "I'm not trying to make excuses for him, but I see a side of him that other people don't get to see, so I think that's what makes up for it. I know it sounds awful but I'm the one who goes home with him at night when we're alone and he says nice things and he gets me cards he writes nice things to me."

While things seem to be good between Emily and Shane now, that wasn't always the case.

According to People, there was one season 14 episode where the couple was at a restaurant for dinner and Shane kept poking fun at the fact that Emily was trying to follow a healthy diet. He kept mentioning the bread bowl and it really upset Emily. She shared with the camera, “Everything with Shane is a joke, but this is a serious issue. I’ve gained a lot of weight. I’ve literally put on 20 lbs. in, like, an eight-month period. I want to be healthy for my kids. I want to play with them and take them to the park and not feel like crap. I just need, not jokes. I need support.”

In October 2019, Emily told Us Weekly that her marriage wasn't "good" and that it was difficult to see herself fighting with Shane on The Real Housewives. She also said of Shane, "Everybody likes a good villain. He was trending on Twitter."

In a recent post on her Instagram, Emily shared a sweet image of Shane and their sons. She wrote in the caption, Life without @shanesimps would be boring and appropriate. Thank you for not leaving us yet. We need you."

That sounds like a happy wife talking about how much she loves her husband, so it looks like things are going much smoother in this Real Housewives marriage.
