Sydney Sweeney is, without a doubt, the biggest rising star on HBO's Euphoria. Everything she does grabs the attention of the press and her adoring (and sometimes overly thirsty) fans. Her highly secretive romance with her much older boyfriend (and possible fiance) is constantly in the headlines. She's a scene-stealer in just about everything she appears in. Fans can't get enough of her hidden passions, including being a trained MMA fighter. And her recent and daring debut at the MET Gala is just the latest piece of evidence that Sydney has become a straight-up fashion icon. This kind of attention is a magnet to haters. Sydney has certainly had her fair share of them. But according to numerous interviews, she has been dealing with bullies her whole life. In fact, she has admitted to having a very hard time keeping friends. At least, certain kinds of friends. Given that it takes two to tango, it makes sense why fans are curious about her social life and why she appears to have had so much trouble with it.

Sydney Sweeney Was Bullied

Despite being one of the most sought-after young stars in Hollywood and at the top of just about everybody's crush list, Sydney Sweeney was far from popular in high school. In fact, she was constantly bullied about her curves, according to CheatSheet.

"I was getting horribly bullied in school because — I mean, I had big boobs when I was little, and no one else really did," Sydney publicly shared.

Sydney gained a lot of confidence as she got older. Her intimate scenes in Euphoria and movies like The Voyeurs further cemented the power she developed embracing her body. But that doesn't mean she hasn't completely transcended the feelings of being held back by haters. In May 2021, Sydney actually broke down on Instagram Live after there was a Twitter trend about her being "ugly".

Does Sydney Sweeney Have Trouble Keeping Friends?

Following her heartbreaking breakdown on Instagram Live, Sydney admitted that she wouldn't have done that had she not had had a terrible day leading up to it. In a recent interview with Cosmopolitan, Sydney claimed that she was having issues with her period during a photoshoot that day and then had a blow-up with a friend when she came home.

"That night, one of my friends really wanted me to go out with her and I texted her and said, 'I can’t come.' I think it was the last straw, me bailing on her. She said that she couldn’t rely on me and didn’t want to be my friend anymore."

While every person has lost friends throughout their lives, Sydney has admitted that this has happened to her numerous times.

Sydney Sweeney Lost All Of Her Childhood Friends

Very few people have been able to keep all the friends they made in the earliest part of their lives. But Sydney has admitted to basically losing all of these connections. This is because many of the families she grew up with in Spokane, Washington, weren't happy that she was pursuing an acting career. The fact that she had convinced her parents to allow her to fly to L.A. to audition for work rubbed some parents, in particular, the wrong way.

"I had really close friends that suddenly weren’t close anymore, because of the things that their parents would say at the dinner table," Sweeney explained to L'Officiel. "And it was that kind of thing, where the parents would influence what these 13-year-old kids would say or think. And they’d be like, 'I can’t believe that Sydney’s parents are letting her go to the hell-ridden city.' Just their close-minded beliefs and they would talk about it at the dinner table, and the kids would take it to school and that’s just how everything would go around."

Sydney's aspirations clearly made other people feel very small. This happened again when she pursued a business degree while acting. Despite getting good grades, she was denied the chance to take the final exam by her professor due to her classmates being furious that she never showed up to class. Sydney was filming a project at the time and was trying to balance both.

This is yet another example of Sydney having a hard time connecting with her peers. While it's respectable that she had high aspirations and was accomplishing them, one can also understand how frustrating it may have been for her college peers who weren't offered the luxury of doing most of their school work from a movie set.

Who Is Sydney Sweeney's Best Friend?

Despite having some issues with her high school and college peers, Sydney does appear to have a social life in 2022. While she's rarely spotted publicly with her partner, Jonathan Davino, she's commonly seen with friends. They aren't celebrities, so we don't know who they are, but it proves that Sydney has been able to find a group that accepts both her dreams and her busy schedule.

Sydney does, however, have a few very close celebrity friends who may just be her best friends. First and foremost, there's Halsey, who Sydney became besties with after the pair worked together on Halsey's music video for "Graveyard". Then there's her on-screen Euphoria sister, Maude Apatow.

During a recent interview with People, Sydney explained how she and Maude became close while shooting Euphoria. So much so that they're constantly in each other's trailers between takes and even hang out off-set at the Apatow residence.

"It’s surprising that we are able to create the friendship," Sydney explained to People of her relationship with Maude. "It’s so hard, not just as girls, to have friendships in our industry because we’re constantly traveling and moving from one project to another. You don’t have that much time to really nurture a friendship. With Euphoria, we spend so much time together."
