David Letterman delivered fellow talk show host Drew Barrymore a tear-jerking birthday surprise. What was disguised as a Zoom call interview turned into a moment the actress will never forget.

She appeared on Letterman's Late Show 20 times, so roles reversed had to have been surreal. She said the gift made her "grateful" and fans applauded the scene.

"Tell Her To Unmute"

Barrymore sat next to Today's Savannah Guthrie and uncontrollably laughed as Letterman faked his inability to figure out Zoom.

"Tell her to unmute," Letterman said, acting as though he couldn't work the video conference app. Guthrie played along and asked, "Are you Zooming Dave? Are you good at technology?"

"I'm sorry I can't hear her. Can you hear me," Letterman placed his ear closer to his computer's microphone and quickly stepped out of frame. Barrymore rolled with the supposed technical malfunction and enjoyed every second of it.

Guthrie chimed in during the momentary silence commenting on how sweet it was for Letterman to appear on Barrymore's birthday bash episode. The filler conversation quickly turned celebratory as the legend of late-night walked onstage.

Barrymore stayed still, gobsmacked by the unexpected visit. As her mouth remained agape, her eyes began to well up with tears. "Party Rock Anthem" played in the background as the birthday star, for once, couldn't think of anything to say.

Tears Of Joy

"Happy birthday! What do you think," Letterman exclaimed. Barrymore still couldn't summon the right words to express her happiness. He offered her the invitation to sit down on her own show, making for a heart-warming encounter.

"I'm so grateful that you came here," Barrymore said through a cracking voice and tears running down her face.

Fans rallied around Barrymore with loving comments and insisted that an iconic host like Letterman can cement a new host's confidence in their own success.

One wrote, "Like Conan said, David Letterman coming on your show is one of the most important validations a talk show host can have - it means he believes in you and he thinks you're gonna make it."

The clip hit Barrymore's fans "in the feels" and made them equally as proud of her as Letterman already is.

She turns 46 today and got to soak in a full life of accomplishments and appreciated friendships with someone she highly respects. Cheers, Drew!
