These ducks had their first taste of winter and decided they would rather not.
When you think about it, this makes a lot of sense. Normally you wouldn’t see ducks at all over the winter as they prefer to migrate south where it remains a sane temperature. It’s only recently due to global warming that some ducks are actually staying up in the cold north all-year-round.
That said, the ducks that overwinter in the northern climes are the hardy ones, the ones that have experienced a true winter and find the milder winters that have become more common are less of a hassle than flying all the way down to South Carolina. There are alligators and guns down there, and nobody wants to deal with that deadly combo.
But these aren’t wild ducks--they’re farm ducks. They’ve never experienced a true winter, one which freezes your eyelashes to your face and gives you a nose-sicle thanks to frozen mucus. They’ve only experienced the relatively warm interior of a barn. Or a duck coop. Whatever you call a building that contains ducks.
As it’s the internet age, farmers are finding new ways to remain relevant by taking funny reactions from their animals. This one decided to give their new ducks--now fully grown--their first taste of winter. It wasn’t even a terribly strong taste either--just some mild snowfall and a few inches of snow in the ground.

And yet the duck’s reaction is priceless. They’re a brace bunch, waddling into the snow for a few feet to get their collective webbed feet wet, so to speak, and then they all come to the realization at exactly the same time that winter just wasn’t for them. You can practically hear each one quacking “nope nope nope” as they waddle back inside, safe from the cold.
Meanwhile, that dog is just lying up to this shoulders in white powder and wondering what’s the problem with those ducks.
And if you’re into even more farm animals that decided winter wasn’t for them, there’s always this gif of a pair of horses deciding at exactly the same time that a blizzard is no place for anyone, let alone a horse.
