When A&E premiered Storage Wars in 2010, their idea was brilliant, and their 2.4 million viewers agreed. Every episode opens up with a powerful voice exclaiming, “When storage units are abandoned, the treasures within are put up for auction…”

But what that voice doesn’t tell us is that the treasures within could actually turn out to be totally dumb and a waste of time. After the unit bidding is completed, the rest of the episode focuses in on individual finds.

We expect the stars to find treasures, because we are told they are going to find treasures. But avid viewers of the series know all too well, that this isn’t always the case.

One man’s trash may be another man’s treasure, but with a show like Storage Wars, we shouldn’t be surprised when they start calling anything and everything a “treasure.” Here are 20 finds that weren’t exactly a prize.

20 Mary Padian Found A Hamster Wheel, But For Dogs

In season 8, episode 4, Mary Padian found a dog tread wheel in her locker. These dog version of hamster wheels really exist and cost over a thousand dollars.

So, while this was probably a profitable discovery for Mary, it still has us scratching our heads, asking why? According to the expert Mary spoke with in the episode, they can be used for overweight dogs.

19 Rose-Colored Chicken Sunglasses Are A Real Thing

Season 2, Episode 17 proved to us once again that anything is possible when Barry Weiss found a pair of chicken glasses in his unit. After taking them to a friend of his out on a farm, they test out the little red specs.

These antique glasses are from the late ‘30s and were used to reduce cannibalism among chickens.

18 Who Knew A Big Wooden Head With Glass Eyes Would Be Valuable

Barry is the king of finding weird objects. In season 2, episode 5, he collected a giant wooden head sculpture worth thousands of dollars.

The head featured, “real glass eyes, real dentures, and a small window pane in the back that peered into a scene going on in the man’s head,” according to Popculture.

17 Kenny Crossley Found A Clown Costume And It Was Something Out Of A Nightmare

Kenny Crossley joined the original cast as a guest after the first couple of seasons. He knew the game and he was there to play. However, he never expected to find a professional clown costume, complete with helium tank and giant shoes, in a locker.

Instead of just taking it to get it appraised, Kenny proceeded in trying it on and dancing around.

16 A Chest Full Of Money With All The Faces Cut Out Was Just Plain Weird

Finding a chest full of actual money? It doesn’t get more profitable than that on Storage Wars. According to TMZ, in 2011, a bidder found an old trunk with $24,000 worth of cash in it.

But for some reason, all the bills had the faces cut out. That money was still considered legal and valuable by banks since the serial numbers were still in tact.

15 A Jar Full Of Literal Whale Junk Stunk Up Brandon Sheet’s Find

Brandon Sheets joined the series with his father, Darrell, after the first couple of seasons. After a while, it seemed he had a string of luck with finding the strangest things in his lockers.

He once actually found a jar full of whale … number 2’s. According to Popculture, he and Darrell took the jar to be tested and learned about how it was melted.

Storage Hunters often uncover some of people’s weirdest secrets that were kept hidden in their lockers. According to Popculture, one bidder opened up his locker to find it full of hands.

There was a large sculpture of a hand, tiny doll hands, a clock with a picture of a hand, posters with hands, and a jar with what looked like an actual human hand.

13 This Vintage Billboard Ad Was Probably Brandi’s Favorite Puzzle

During season 2, episode 3, Brandi Passante found herself an antique billboard poster. Why someone kept an antique billboard advertisement isn’t quite known.

After figuring out the cut-up picture fit together, Brandi did a quick internet search to find out that her strange find was actually worth something if it didn’t end up blowing away in the wind.

Alligators are not cuddly, and they aren’t exactly the cutest creatures either. For some reason, someone somewhere decided to have an alligator head preserved and kept it, and Kevin from Storage Wars: Miami, found it in season 1, episode 4.

He took the head, with black marbled eyes, to a guy who cares for living alligators to get more information on his find.

8 Jarrod’s Exciting Mystery Box Was Nothing Special

Finding a safe in a locker is always super exciting. People usually put their most prized possessions in safes. So, when Jarrod and Brandi found a big, black safe in their locker, Jarrod was obviously thrilled.

After beating the safe up until it was open, Jarrod revealed there was absolutely nothing in their mystery box.

7 Barry Went Nuts For Something Used To Collect Spit

Spittoons are used to collect spit from tobacco chewers. Barry found a pocket spittoon in one of his lockers and was very curious.

During season 1, episode 9, Barry took his “obscure item to some obscure dealers” to figure out what he found. The item was from the 1840s and bordered between gross and cool.

6 Collectible Garbage Pail Kids Cards Is Exactly Like It Sounds

During season 4, episode 3, newcomer Ivy Calvin uncovered a box full of collectible Garbage Pail Kid cards. Garbage Pail Kids are a parody of the Cabbage Patch Kids from the late ‘80s. They were comical and dealt with darker ideas than the cute Cabbage Patch Kids.

A box of their cards seems pretty dumb but have actually become pretty valuable as they get older.

5 This Purple-Haired Creepy Doll Could Be Chucky’s Little Sister

The doll wasn’t Jarrod and Brandi’s prized find in their locker of the day, but she did catch their attention for a minute. Luckily, they uncovered several antique cameras and didn’t have to depend on this dumb find.

4 Dave Thought His Rusted Golf Clubs Would Be A Hole In One

The locker Dave Hester purchased during season 2, episode 4 was unimpressive. It had a lot of old household items. He did find several rusted-up golf clubs, though and believed this was his big moment.

After finding an appraiser, Dave learned his clubs were from the 1920s but weren’t worth as much as he had hoped.

Barry is known for his off-the-wall antics, so when he purchased a locker for the secret tunnel in the back of it, we shouldn’t have been surprised.

During season 2, episode 7, we were right there with him hoping there would be some hidden treasure in the rather empty locker. But alas, the tunnel was empty and didn’t lead anywhere at all.

2 Vintage Roller Skates Sent Brandi Spinning

Season 2, Episode 10 put Brandi into skates after she found some vintage roller skates in a storage unit. They were used and they are something that likely everyone has seen at least once in their life.

These ones were special, though, because they were considered “vintage,” so Brandi wanted to get her money’s worth.
