He came from very little, practically down to $7 once he was cut from the CFL. With his relentless work ethic, Dwayne Johnson took a bad situation and turned it into something.

Joining the WWE, DJ was able to change the entire trajectory of his career and personal life. Suddenly, he was the face of the company and shipped off to Hollywood, in search of a career as a major film star.

Let's just say that at the start, things weren't going to plan. Johnson was involved in some bad flicks early on, heck he even poked fun at himself for some of his work, including his work in 'Doom'.

Not only was he appearing in bad films, but he was straying away from his identity. The Rock was encouraged to conform with Hollywood, and this reality brought him further from what he wanted to do.

One film turned out to be his tipping point, and after the film, he fired his reps. The move was a huge positive and in truth, it saved his career. From that point on, he never looked back.

Questionable Film Choices Early On

Yes, the likes of Brad Pitt weren't starring in A-list films from the start, however, they had a certain vision for their career along the way.

For Dwayne Johnson, it was those around him, that were dictating that vision. He was appearing in bad films like 'Doom', 'The Rundown' and various other forgettable roles.

To make matters worse, his team wanted him to change his entire identity, which in turn meant fewer muscles and no talk about his past in WWE.

“I was told that I had to conform to a standard in Hollywood that would beget me more work, better roles,” he explains. “Which meant I had to stop going to the gym, which meant I couldn’t be as big, which meant you had to distance yourself from wrestling. You essentially had to deconstruct yourself.”

In 2010, after appearing in a certain film, Dwayne finally had enough. He rebranded his entire goals and suddenly, his team was looking very different.

A big addition to his team turned out to be his ex-wife, Dany Garcia.

The two are still partners today, crushing it not only in Hollywood but with various other business ventures.

It All Changed After 'Tooth Fairy'

Take a look at Dwayne Johnson in 'Tooth Fairy' and it becomes clear, he looks hardly recognizable, compared to his current self in 'Black Adam'.

After the film took place, DJ changed agents and publicists, according to his ex-wife, he was pulling away from his core vision.

"Dwayne was moving away from his core of who he was.”

Not only was Garcia aware, but according to his interview with Yahoo Entertainment, DJ was also aware it was time for a change.

"You know what happens when you have a vision, and you want it executed in a certain way, you need people around you who are going to believe in that too."

“And at that time, there were some things that were happening… and I knew I had to make a change.”

DJ would also admit that the change did happen after 'Tooth Fairy', however, his displeasure started a very long-time ago.

“There wasn’t just one particular movie that that happened on. It just happened over a period of time, and I needed people around me who shared the same vision.”

Once the new team and vision were put into place, DJ became the biggest star in Hollywood.

The Roles Started To Change After The Film

DJ knew, there was serious potential for him to thrive. Among his big goals was to work in a franchise-type film.

“I felt there were bigger and better opportunities,” he says. “I also felt there was franchise potential, hopefully, multiple franchises in every genre — whether drama or comedy or action-comedy. I thought, ‘I want people around me who see this, too. And if we fail, that’s OK. We are going to fail swinging for the fences."

Let's just say the opportunities came in fast and furious... literally. Suddenly, he was breaking the bank with films like 'Fast Five' along with being cast in 'G.I. Joe: Retaliation', which made some serious noise at the box office.

'Journey 2: The Mysterious Island' also made more than $300 million, suddenly the franchise films took his career to the next level.

Along with his acting career, DJ is a monster in the business world, with multiple ventures.

In a few years, he'll join the billion-dollar club.
