It seems like Elisha Cuthbert has been around forever. In truth, she's only 38 these days and the actress got her start in the business at a very young age.

Like her peers, Cuthbert climbed up the ladder, starting off with minor roles though soon enough, she was thrust into stardom as a lead.

She Started Off With Smaller Roles

At the age of nine, Elisha Cuthbert was already booking gigs and by 17, she had made the move from Canada over to the bright light of Hollywood. Cuthbert admits, it was as if the career chose her.

"Acting got me too. There was definitely a will and drive but there was calling that was happening to me. There was no choice, if that makes sense. It wasn’t like oh my gosh I want to be a famous actress. The acting came into my life and I pursued it as the opportunities presented themselves. I worked hard but I think it was just supposed to be and for my husband too. I see him and I watch him and I know he was supposed to do what he does."

Cuthbert started with smaller roles, like co-hosting 'Popular Mechanics for Kids', an iconic show which was filmed alongside Jay Baruchel over in Montreal.

Slowly, maturer roles started entering the picture, she took part in films like 'Old School' and 'Love Actually, which were huge hits at the box office.

Although she played smaller roles, it was a great way to create exposure for her career. Soon enough, she would get the chance of a lifetime as a lead but at the start, she wasn't too sure given the context of the script.

Hesitant About 'The Girl Next Door'

Playing the role of an adult actress might have any star second-guessing the script, even if it means a lead role. The position also came with nudity, at the start Cuthbert hesitated.

"It was difficult because I had to be this character who was dominating and you have to build up some confidence to make that happen. And the porn stuff was really uncomfortable too because I had to put myself in that environment and that cultural situation. It was tricky and it’s embarrassing because you’ve got the crew watching. They were very professional, but it was a little nerve-racking."

Even at the starting stages when she would read the script, it was hard to dive in. However, Elisha knew there was something great to the story.

"When I first read it, I had my apprehensions about it. It was just like, what are we going to do with this?"

"This film could be really, really great, but depending on who directs it, and who's in it, you could do something completely different, so the collaborations with the director made me feel really confident going in to shoot it."

It was a huge turning point for Cuthbert, seeing as though it was her first time as the lead and center of attention.

Now the film wasn't a success at the box office, bringing in $30 million off a $20 million budget. However, like so many other films, it would become a cult classic in the years that followed and is still celebrated today, almost two decades later.

Taking A Step Back From The Spotlight These Days

No, Cuthbert is not done with the industry for good, though in truth, her roles have lessened along the way.

These days, she still has a few projects in the works which include 'The Cellar' and 'Bandit'.

In addition, she's often appearing on television shows for guest spots.

Outside of her work life, she's a proud mom while keeping a low profile, the actress isn't very active on social media either.

We'll just have to wait and see if her schedule ramps up, she definitely has time on her side still only 38!
