Elon Musk bought Twitter in 2022 for $44 billion, and disaster followed. A few hours after stripping Twitter's content moderation rules, the use of racist language on the app skyrocketed. Also, his brutish managerial style forced almost the entire Twitter staff to quit. There was also the notorious blue check fiasco which saw a spike in fake accounts.

His antics since taking over the website cost him $200 billion. Long before Musk took over Twitter he had a track record of weird and cringe Tweets, and they only got worse when he bought the website.

10 His Bromance With An Antisemite

2022 was Kanye West's official fall from grace. After a public breakup with Kim Kardashian and a feud with her then-boyfriend Pete Davidson, West decided to double down hard on his divorced dad energy with overt bigotry. In a series of unhinged interviews, he praised Adolph Hitler and the Nazi Reich. But there was a time when Musk was very much on Team Ye, especially when the rapper announced his presidential campaign in 2020. Musk quickly praised Kanye but quickly backtracked when he learned that the musician's platform was anti-abortion.

9 His Belittling Of The Pandemic

The Covid-19 pandemic has killed nearly 7 million people as of 2023, but it was all a big joke for the world's former richest man. Despite his alleged reputation as a scientific genius, Musk has spread vaccine misinformation and smeared public servants like Dr. Fauci. He wrongly predicted Covid cases would be down to zero by April 2020, and his other comments have ranged from off-hand remarks to unprovoked transphobia. "The coronavirus pandemic is dumb," and, "My pronouns are, Prosecute/Fauci," which doesn't even make sense and is ridiculously transphobic.

8 His Transphobic Jokes

Musk has made it clear he has no respect for trans lives. Aside from his dumb Fauci pronoun joke, he has Tweeted bigoted comments like, "Pronouns suck." He tried to backtrack when he was called out for this, "I absolutely support trans, but all these pronouns are an esthetic nightmare." Is it a nightmare, or are you just lazy, Elon?

7 His Weird Obsession With Reproduction

Musk believes that the greatest issue facing the human race is underpopulation. When news broke about his second child with the musician Grimes, Musk boasted, "Doing my best to help the underpopulation crisis." And how! Musk has 10 children with three different women, some of which he had in secret.

6 His Stock Market Misfire

Musk tweeted "Am thinking of taking Tesla private at $420, funding secured." Upon investigation, the SEC found this was not true. Musk was then fined $40 million. Musk's current obsession with Twitter spurred a massive decline in Tesla's stock value.

5 His Lame Rock Pun

Some say Musk bought Twitter to show off how funny and cool he is to his fans. Well, if his goal is to look cool one has to wonder why he thinks rock puns that wouldn't even count as dad jokes are the way to go. In November 2022, he tweeted, "This rocks," over a meme about igneous rocks. Move over John Mulaney!

4 His Beef With Bernie And The Progressive Left

Musk loves to spar with politicians on Twitter. He had a brief feud with Senator Bernie Sanders in 2021 over taxing billionaires. The socialist senator posted, "We demand the extremely wealthy pay their fair share. Period." Musk's reply was, "I keep forgetting you're still alive." Seriously Musk? You just forgot that one of the most popular politicians in the United States was still alive? The backlash from Bernie supporters was swift.

Musk also tried to pick a fight with another progressive Senator, Ed Markey of Massachusetts, Markey's clapback was swift and brutal. "One of your companies is under an FTC consent decree. Auto safety watchdog NHTSA is investigating another for killing people. And you’re spending your time picking fights online. Fix your companies. Or Congress will."

3 His Beef With Other Billionaires

One might think that if Musk is so afraid of paying more in taxes he would stand in solidarity with his fellow billionaires. Quite the contrary. Musk seems intent on going after everyone in the billionaire class, including Jeff Bezos and Bill Gates. Gates has gotten some of the worst of Musk's trolling, in April 2022 Musk posted "In case you need to lose a boner fast," over a picture comparing Gates to an emoji of a pregnant man. Polite reminder, Musk is a father with ten children, but he's tweeting like a MySpace bully from 2005.

2 His Dumb Sink Video

When he first took over the site, Musk posted a video of himself walking into Twitter headquarters carrying a sink. The message was he wanted it to "sink in" this would be a new day for Twitter. Let's be honest, the rock pun was better.

1 His Twitter Poll

As the Twitter meltdown ensued after his highly publicized series of missteps, the rumors that Musk was on his way out began to circulate. In a foolish attempt to prove the public enjoys the new Twitter, Musk posted a poll asking if he should step down as CEO. The "Yes" vote won overwhelmingly. As of the time this was written, Musk is still CEO of Twitter. Musk is notorious for backtracking on his promises, like the time he tried to go to court to get out of paying $44 billion for Twitter in the first place. Will Musk keep his word this time?
