Emily in Paris actress Ashley Park has posted an emotional video commenting on the Atlanta shootings of March 17. Eight people — including six women of Asian descent — lost their lives in the attacks.

The man believed to have opened fire on three different spas in the Atlanta area has been charged with murder. Despite officials haven’t confirmed yet if the crime was racially motivated, the massacre comes at a time when there’s been a significant increase in anti-Asian hate.

Ashley Park Shares Emotional Video Speaking Against Anti-Asian Violence

Park, best known for playing Mindy on Netflix series Emily in Paris, took to her social media in the aftermath of the attack.

She said she decided to record the video so that “I don’t forget this feeling”.

“I’m so tired of people not knowing what’s going on and also tired of people not understanding where these acts of hate and violence towards Asians [are] coming from,” Park says in the video.

The actress teared up before sharing a message from Korean-American writer Min Jin Lee. Park explained that she decided to recite the words instead of reposting them so that it would feel “more real”.

“Min Jin said, ‘In less than 48 hours, we had a historic Asian Oscar moment with multiple firsts in 93 years. Then, a mass shooting targeting three Asian-owned businesses,” Park recited.

“This is how terrorism works, you’re not allowed to feel safe, accepted, or valued,” Min Jin Lee’s message also said.

Park added: “Last night’s shootings, the acts of violence against the Asian elderly […] I am always wondering: why? How did it come to this? These things happen when people have rage and entitlement and when they prey on the weak.”

Lana Condor Wants You To Stand By Your Asian Friends

Park is among the celebrities speaking up on the Georgia shootings. To All The Boys star Lana Condor also addressed the rise in anti-Asian hate crimes as well as the attacks in a tweet.

“Wake up... your Asian friends and family are deeply scared, horrified, sick to their stomachs and wildly angry. Please please please check in on us, please please please stand with us. Please. Your Asian friend needs you, even if they aren’t publicly grieving on social media,” she wrote on March 17.

Mindy Kaling also took to social media to call out anti-Asian speech and crime.
