Eminem was not playing around when he called himself the Rap God back in 2013. How could he not be? Over more than 20 years of career in the rap game, Marshall Mathers was the best-selling artist of the decade at some point in his career, and yet, he still proved that he can do numbers without any promotion at the latter stage of it. Also, not to laundry-list names of top-flight rappers that he influenced, from Kendrick Lamar to the late Juice WRLD.

On this list, we're taking a look back over 10 of the most significant career accomplishment of Marshall Mathers and his inspirative journey from a 'white trailer trash' to a 'white-hot,' in no chronological order.

10 When He Became the First Artist to Have 10 Consecutive Number-One Albums

Following the successful surprise-release of Music to Be Murdered By in early 2020, Eminem set a historical record to be the first-ever artist to have 10-consecutive number one albums. With 275.000 units sold within the first week, Eminem is still a hot topic in the market, and he shows no sign of slowing down.

Not everybody can put out albums after albums with such density and bring their best pen game on them for more than 20 years of career, so we have to give Eminem his props for that.

9 When He Won Best Rap Album for 3 Consecutive LPs

Back during his glory days in the early 2000s, Eminem released three back-to-back classic albums: The Slim Shady LP (1999), The Marshall Mathers LP (2000), and The Eminem Show (2002), all ended up winning the Grammy for Best Rap Album.

Eminem's love for his daughter and the hip-hop culture is what keeps his work ethic this high. Through his music and split-personalities, he fondly speaks about them and vividly tells the story of his life, which makes his fans listen to his craft religiously.

8 When He Proved That He Doesn't Need to Promote His Albums to Do Numbers

Eminem's frustration of the public reception of Revival and the rising sub-genre of 'mumble rap' gave birth to one of the wildest years of his career: 2018. In that year, he went on a full attack mode against music critics, haters, and lazy rappers on Kamikaze and successfully executed modern-day hip-hop beats, something he's poorly done on Revival.

By the end of the year, Kamikaze finally reached platinum, proving that Eminem can still outsell your favorite rappers even with no promotion during the latter stage of his career.

7 When He Produced Tupac's Posthumous Album

Eminem has always been a long life fan (or Stan) of Tupac Shakur, or in his own words, "You can't just listen to Pac, you feel Pac. If you listen to him, you gonna feel him."

In 2004, Eminem had Afeni Shakur's blessing to produce his late son's posthumous album, titled Loyal to the Game. Although this particular milestone is not about how much money he made, Tupac's Loyal to the Game is a personal record for Em. It debuted atop the Billboard 200 chart, proving that Eminem had definitely given his idol the praise he deserved.

6 When He Launched Shady Records

Right after releasing The Slim Shady LP, Eminem teamed up with Paul Rosenberg to lay the foundation of Shady Records, which initially served as his group D12's avenue. Founded in 1999, Shady Records was once home to hip-hop's most prolific artists from Eminem himself, D12, 50 Cent, and Obie Trice.

After Eminem decided to step out of the spotlight in 2006, the label saw its massive decline. Many artists started departing Shady one by one after feeling not being promoted enough. Yet, Eminem is now as sober and healthy as ever, and with the signing of the Griselda boys and Boogie, Shady Records could go in the right direction once again.

5 When He Won Back-to-Back Grammy With RelapseRecovery

As his best friend Proof was murdered in 2006, Eminem's health started deteriorating. Canceling tours and consuming pills had been familiar with him before he collapsed and overdosed in his bathroom one night in 2007.

Then, Eminem rose from hell and came back stronger than ever. After announcing his sobriety in 2008, Eminem started 'spazzing on 'em' by releasing Relapse, a cynical & dark return of Slim Shady, a year later. Then, he released its antidote, Recovery, also a year later. Both albums won a Grammy for Best Rap Album of the Year.

4 When He Ended the 2000s Atop the Decade's Highest-Selling Artist

With all that being said, Eminem became the best-selling artist of the 2000s with the 'Holy Trilogy' of his classic albums: Slim LP ('99), Mathers LP ('00), and The Eminem Show ('02), as well as the 2004 Encore, which was an average album at best but still did a crazy number.

According to MTV, Eminem had sold more than 32.2 million albums in the 2000s, beating pop heavyweights like NSYNC, Norah Jones, Usher, and many others.

3 When He Became the First Rapper to Win an Oscar

On March 23rd, 2003, Eminem became the first-ever rapper to get on the prestigious stage of the Oscar Awards and came home with a big win, beating U2, Paul Simmons, and others in the process. What makes Lose Yourself a great, stand-out, & timeless track is how Eminem summarizes a 1 hour and 58 minutes movie into a 5:20 record and perfectly crafts its rhyme density & complexity without losing the storytelling aspect.

Even though the rapper himself failed to attend the awarding night, he came back more than a decade later to perform the same song and received standing applause. Well deserved.

2 The Whole Marshall Mathers LP, Basically

With the 2000 Marshall Mathers LP, Eminem takes us to his 19946 Dresden home and immortalizes his promise to become the worst enemy of every American parent with troubled youths. The polarizing & timeless album put Eminem in the highest pedestal and made him a constant subject of the United States government's critics.

Despite its over-the-top violent lyrics, the album was a 10/10 for its in-depth personal story and emotional ride. As we all know, the album was a big commercial success, with over 25 million copies sold worldwide.

1 When He Released The Eminem Show, Starred on 8 Mile, & Co-Signed 50 Cent in the Same Year

Eminem made 2000 his playground. In that year, Eminem released the last of his persona trinity album, The Eminem Show, which eventually over 27 million copies, made his big-screen debut with 8 Mile, which landed him an Oscar win for Best Original Song, and signed 50 Cent to his Shady Records venture.

50, who was fresh-off-the-boat after being released by Colombia, took some leftover power from his intended 2000 debut album Power of the Dollar for his Shady debut, Get Rich or Die Tryin.' The album, which also served as his lifetime motto, sold over 12 million copies worldwide, making it the most hyped debut album in hip-hop.
