“I was really in love with that script, but I put so much pressure on myself,” Stone told Chalamet.

“I was 20, and while we were shooting it, I was just going nuts and was like, this whole thing could fail. It felt like it had to be well-calibrated throughout, and it was the first time that I had ever had to rely on myself to be able to carry all of that.”

That was just the start of her pressure and anxiety, as she was forced to deal with another stressful scene. As it turns out, the scene wasn't even in the film at the start.

The Scene Wasn't Supposed To Be In The Movie

Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling made for a perfect match in the film. Director Glenn Ficarra spoke glowingly about the two alongside EW.

However, he would reveal that the scene which stressed Stone the most was actually not part of the original script and Ryan's idea.

"That was not in the script. That was Ryan’s idea. He mentioned he knew that move, and he wanted to do it. He took ballet as a kid and is a musical guy, so he was very confident doing that."

"That came out of a lot of conversations with Ryan and [writer] Dan Fogelman. Dan took the ball and ran with it and it’s fantastic. That’s where the really great scenes come from, ideas kind of whip around the room and next thing you know… and those are real nerves."

Stone Had A Meltdown That Caused A Stoppage

Known as the 'Dirty Dancing' scene, Stone went through a meltdown on the set. According to the star, it was all good till it was time for the scene to take place.

A past injury was what caused the stress for Stone, "I broke both my arms when I was seven, falling forward off the parallel bars in gymnastics and I didn’t realize that I had a dormant primal fear until Ryan lifted me over his head and when I was over."

"I was like, ‘I can’t do this, I can’t do this’ and my body just completely collapsed into him and kicked him in the throat—my bad [laughs]—but the screams of my panic are the screams they used in ADR overlaying the stunt double that he lifted. So I’m very, very grateful and to directors [Glenn Ficarra and John Requa] for making use of that terrible, terrible panic."

The scene was a success and during the shoot, we can actually see the fear in Stone's eyes. Thankfully, Gosling kept a cool head under pressure.
