Emma Stone has come a very long way. Prior to her fame, she had to work hard to get there just like everyone else, starting off with D-list type reality TV projects.

Slowly but surely, she climbed the ladder and became a huge star. Her breakout might be considered 'Superbad', however, when it came to being the lead, 'Crazy, Stupid Love' alongside Steve Carell and Ryan Gosling was her real coming out project.

Although the film was adored by fans, it was a different story behind the scenes. Emma Stone struggled in more ways than one, not only putting pressure on herself given that she was only 20, but the actress also had a hard time during a certain 'Dirty Dancing' scene.

We'll take a look back at everything that went down behind the scenes.

Emma Stone Was In Love With The 'Crazy Stupid Love' Script

For Emma Stone, feeling the intense pressure had a lot to do with the fact that she was absolutely obsessed with the script and adored it. Therefore, she didn't want to make a mess of it, especially given that she was dawned with the lead role, among a star-studded cast.

It should be noted that at that point, Emma Stone was just into her early 20s, and she didn't have the experience she has today.

Alongside Collider, Stone also admitted that she has a lot of similarities to the character of Hannah, which she portrayed in the film.

"I think that there’s, well she’s nuts when she has a couple of drinks in her. So there’s that. And she, I think she responds to the— Maybe she doesn’t know that she’s not necessarily fully happy in her life until someone kind of shakes her out of it a little bit. That’s happened to me."

Despite the love for the script and the comparison to the character, it was still extremely difficult for Stone to watch the project back, despite the fact that fans loved the film.

Emma Stone Refused To Watch The Film Back Given All The Pressure She Felt As The Lead

Speaking alongside Timothee Chalamet for Variety, Stone admitted the pressure during the particular film was immense. She had just turned 20, and Stone kept thinking about the project not failing, given that it was her first shot in a lead role.

“I was really in love with that script, but I put so much pressure on myself,” Stone told Chalamet. “I was 20, and while we were shooting it, I was just going nuts and was like, this whole thing could fail. It felt like it had to be well-calibrated throughout, and it was the first time that I had ever had to rely on myself to be able to carry all of that.”

Nowadays, Stone is comfortable watching her work back, though, in truth, she should've watched this film back from the start, as it was a huge success, receiving a near 80% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, along with a 7.4 on IMDB, which is outstanding for a rom-com.

These days, fans can continue to watch the film, as it is now a part of the long list of Netflix films.

Emma Stone Had Another Meltdown During A 'Dirty-Dancing' Scene With Ryan Gosling

That's right, the meltdowns didn't end there and in truth, Emma Stone underwent another challenging moment while shooting the film. This one would lead to a breakdown behind the scenes, as Stone wasn't sure she could get through the scene.

it was a major part of the film, so we're thankful it took place, however, given Stone's fear of heights, she wasn't as thrilled about it all.

The actress recalls going in complete panic mode, "When we do Crazy, Stupid, Love, I know that we’re gonna do the Dirty Dancing lift. I don’t know, however, that I have an internalized phobia of being lifted over someone’s head at the height of about 6 feet,” she said.

Co-star Ryan Gosling would also poke fun at Stone during their time together on 'The Graham Norton Show', “I never had this happen, but I imagine if a possum fell out of a tree and tried to scratch your eyes out, it would be something similar,” he joked.

“It was a lot,” Stone said. “And then it was a meltdown. I mean, I had a real meltdown…I had to go lie down.”

At the end of the day, it all worked out for those involved as the film was a tremendous success and one that boosted Stone's career even further, proving that she's just fine in the lead role, even as a 20-year-old.
